Jeff Hess, 63, passed away on January 31, 2026, after a hard fought battle against cancer while surrounded by loved ones.
Jeff was born in Middletown, Ohio, and raised in Plain City, Ohio, where his love for farming, family, and community took root early. He grew up farming alongside his dad and was active in 4-H as a youth. These experiences shaped his work ethic and values for life. Jeff played basketball in high school and later enjoyed playing softball as an adult.
As a father, he carried his passion for farming forward, growing crops and raising cattle, pigs and goats with his children. He taught the value of hard work, responsibility, and showing up for each other.
He loved music and was famously the DJ at Christmas, creating memories that will be replayed for years to come. Jeff spent his free time attending his grandchildren’s sporting and school events. He didn’t miss a thing and was always there, cheering them on and supporting them in every way.
Jeff owned and operated a grave digging business with his son, and he took pride in having his grandchildren help whenever they could. He believed in teaching by example, and keeping family close.
Jeff's greatest joy was his family. Whether working alongside them or cheering them on from the sidelines, he was always present and supportive. His love, dedication and strength will live on through those who were lucky enough to know him.
He is preceded in death by his father, Don Hess.
He is survived by his wife, Dawn Hess; his son, Brian (Kari) Hess; his daughter, Elizabeth (Ben) Parker; his beloved grandchildren, Katie, Lauren, Tyeler, Ryan, Sarah, and Zach; his mother, Sue Hess; his brother, Jason (Tracy) Hess; and his sisters, Julie (Tom) Lather and Jenny Hess.
