It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Janet V. Hess, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and devoted wife, who departed this life on February 4, 2026, at the age of 85 surrounded by her loving family. Janet was born on July 14, 1940, in Knox County, Indiana, the daughter of Clarence and Bernice (Horsting) Ruppel. She married Robert F. Hess on August 23, 1958.
Janet attended St. Thomas grade school and St. Rose Academy. She was a dedicated homemaker, nurturing her family with love and devotion.
A member of the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Parish, Janet found joy and community in her faith. She was actively involved in the Old Cathedral Ladies Auxiliary and the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary, contributing her time and talents to serve others. Her legacy of service and compassion will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Janet is survived by her beloved husband, Robert F. Hess of Vincennes, her loving children, Glenn Hess and his wife Betsy of Fishers, IN, Brenda Steckler and her husband Brad of Indianapolis, IN, Connie Fegan and her husband Roland of Indianapolis, IN, Jeff Hess and his wife Amy of Noblesville, IN; her siblings, Rita Doll and her husband Charlie, Virginia Donaldson and her husband Steve, Linda Ruppel all of Vincennes; thirteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Janet is preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Bernice Ruppel, her son, Bradley Hess; siblings, Paul Ruppel, Margaret Halter, Betty Hesher and two grandchildren.
Friends may visit with Janet's family from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm on Friday, February 13, 2026, at Old Cathedral Catholic Church, 205 Church St., Vincennes, IN 47591. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow the visitation beginning at 3:00 pm celebrated by Rev. Tony Ernst. Janet will be laid to rest in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
