Ronald Jeffrey Mills went home to the Lord on Monday, August 19, 2024. Jeff’s quiet, unexpected departure from his residence was so like him to not trouble anyone with his leaving. It seems his big heart just gave out. He was 66. Jeff was born to Ronald and Harriet Buckman Mills in Covington, Kentucky on April 21, 1958. Growing up in Covington’s Eastside Neighborhood he enjoyed playing baseball in a youth league. He attended nearby Holmes High School where he was on one of the choirs and played on the junior basketball team. While quite young and in school he began helping out at Wihebrink & Sons on East 13th street, a grocery that began in the early 1920’s by his Great Grandfather. His uncles Harry and Bob Wihebrink taught him meat cutting and the ways of the grocery business. Eventually he took over running the store. Later, Jeff went with Thriftway as a butcher working there fifteen years. When Thriftway closed, he took the same position with Remke’s where he worked for twenty years. He loved his work enjoying the camaraderie of his co-workers and assisting the customers. His employer wrote the following: “As we bid farewell this luminous soul, let his loved ones carry forward the torch of his memory, illuminating the path ahead with the warmth of his love and the brilliance of his sprit. Though Jeff may journey beyond the horizon of our sight, his essence remains woven into the very fabric of our being - a guiding light in the darkness, a beacon of hope in the night.” Being Hospitable was central to Jeff’s being, he enjoyed cooking for his family and others, especially showing off his talents at holiday gatherings. He always made sure to visit his Mother every day taking her a nice dinner. His genial presence and culinary skills will be missed. In his free time Jeff enjoyed being with his family. He was so very proud of the fine man his son had become. Jeff enjoyed bowling, watching the Cincinnati Reds and the Bengals, as well as playing wordscapes on his telephone. Jeff was a good man He was preceded in death by his Father, Ronald Mills; Sister, Nancy (Doug) Mullins; Brother, Steve Mills; and his beloved beagle, Max.
