I just heard about the passing of Jeff. I want to send my deepest sympathies to Eileen and all of Jeff's family and friends. Jeff was a kind and extremely knowledgeable man. He was always open and willing to share his expertise for the benefit of others, especially within the mining community. We collaborated on several mine safety projects together over the years for which I am extremely grateful and enriched. We all will miss his willingness to share and his often present sense of humor. I am a better person for having known Jeff! May you rest in peace.

So sorry to hear, Jeff was a cornerstone to Mine Rescue and so instramental in designing bylaws and rules for competition but more importantly, worked more mine disasters than anyone that i know. He was always willing to assist in emergencies and a true expert in his field. Rest in peace my friend!

What a loss to the mining industry and all who knew him. I will cherish the time I was able to spend with Jeff and the knowledge and compassion he so freely shared.

I worked with Dr. Kravitz at MSHA. He was kind, pleasant to work with, and very respected at MSHA.

My sincere condolences to the family. I first met Jeff at the mine academy in Beckley, WV. At the time I was a local safety committee member at our mine and Jeff was overseeing the MERD exercise. I later became the Administrator of Safety for the UMWA and got to work on several issues pertaining to mine safety with Jeff . His knowledge and willingness to share ways to improve rescue and recovery efforts were vital and made a huge impact on how we undertake mine rescue today. He will be missed by many but his legacy will remain. Dennis O´Dell
