Jeffery (Jeff) Bruce Pitcher (68), passed away at his home in Layton Utah, surrounded by his family on Wednesday, November 10, 2021. Jeff was diagnosed with stage four pancreatic cancer only two months before his passing.
Jeff was born to JOAn and Bruce Pitcher on Aug. 10, 1953, in Ogden Utah. As the oldest child, he helped his mom in raising ten brothers and sisters.
He was a devoted husband of 42 years to the love of his life, Eileen. He loved to shop for her (much to her dismay) and cooked her shrimp for every special occasion or after the kids went to sleep. Together, they raised seven children, to whom he was their hero. He taught them that education and hard work are the foundations of success. As well as a manicured lawn, short fingernails, and clean underwear.
He began working at age eleven selling donuts to ensure each sibling had a present on Christmas morning. He has continued working ever since with the same tenacity and ideals of serving others. He was dedicated to his country and local community. He worked as a government servant for 48 years in Utah, Ohio, Egypt, and many other countries all over the world. He faithfully served the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints as a Scout Master, Elders Quorum teacher, Sunday School President, Young Men's Presidency and countless other positions. He particularly enjoyed his time serving in Young Men's and loved all the youth he worked with. He had a profound fondness for the temple and experienced great peace in attending regularly.
Jeff was larger than life with a sense of humor to match. He was the life of the party, and an animated storyteller who never let the truth get in the way of a good story. He believed that all of life's lessons came with a funny story and a punch line. More importantly, he was an incredible friend, brother, husband, father, and grandfather. His family was his priority, followed closely by shopping sprees at Costco, Sam's Club, and Dillards, and the early bird special at Golden Corral.
He never looked for praise, just quietly worked his hardest for his family. He never said no to someone in need. Jeff was always there when you needed him. He was a permanent fixture of every sideline, every audience, and every crowd supporting his grandchildren.
The family would like to express their utmost gratitude to Dr. Gary Holland, Christina and Thomas of A-Plus Home Care and Hospice, to all the many friends who visited, donated food and gave of their time. We are eternally grateful for the special exceptional care his daughter Kristi (a hospice nurse) gave him in his final months. These deeds of kindness showed how much everyone Jeff was loved by those around him.
He is survived by his beautiful wife Eileen and seven children: Jodi (Rod) Winland, Jeffery Kyle Pitcher, Brian (Alicia) Kinne, Kristi (JC) Howe, Jennifer (Trent) Brown, Emily (Brian) Arnold, and Tyler (Sunee) Pitcher. And a deep roster of Grandchildren, 31 and counting.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 20, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at Lindquist's Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Rd., Layton, Utah. Friends may visit with family Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary.
