Jeffery Smith Obituary

Smith, Jeffery "Jeff" Lynn

December 25, 1959 - January 28, 2024

Jeffery Lynn Smith passed away January 28, 2024, after a battle with early onset Alzheimer's disease.

Jeffery, known by everyone as Jeff, or "Squeaky", was born in Greensboro on December 25, 1959, in the old Irving Park area. He graduated from Page High School in 1979 and received a bachelor's degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Jeff was a true Renaissance man. He had a passion for history, vintage cars, and trains. He had a successful occupation with the transportation industry. He spent several years as a Service Advisor at Rice Toyota and worked for 14 years at Epes Transport as a High Value Load Monitor and dispatcher.

He was known by his colleagues as very personable and upbeat.

Jeff married Amy Huffman in August of 1989. They spent many vacations driving to Florida to visit Amy's family. Other places visited were Missouri, Texas, upstate New York, and Indiana. Jeff purchased a 1963 Studebaker and worked on having it restored. He also had a 1962 Ford Falcon. He and Amy loved classic TV and classic movies.

Jeff had a great laugh, and a vibrant personality. His sense of humor stayed intact through the majority of the progression of the Alzheimer's disease. He was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer's disease at the young age of 54.

Jeff is survived by his wife, Amelia Huffman Smith; his brother Tommy Smith and wife Debbie; another brother Bobby Smith and girlfriend Ann; and two nephews Eric Smith, wife Rebecca, and daughter Catherine, son Carl Edward; and Tyler Smith. He is preceded by his father and mother, Eddie and Clara Smith.

A service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, February 2, 2024, at First Baptist Church in Greensboro. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Well-Spring Solutions Memory Care Center, which Jeff attended up until he went into a nursing facility.

Jeff will be sorely missed by his family and friends, but they find peace in knowing that he is now healed.

Jeff was my stepfather's last roommate. They would respond to old movies, actor's names and shared laughter together even though they suffered from memory issues. To see these men share in laughter, even for no reason to me, it put a smile in my heart. Jeff was a blessing to Johnny in a special way. They are together now with Jesus. God speed Jeff into the Lord's arms.

Jeff did have the best laugh! I will always remember his love for Amy, sweet nature, and fondness of "grandpa cars". Sending you lots of love, Amy.
