Dateline: Simmons City, Texas Jeffrey Lynn Atkinson, 63, of Simmons, Texas, was born on May 29, 1962, and passed away on August 12, 2025. From the time he could walk, Jeff had a rope in his hand and on a horse. By age six, he had won his first competition. He grew up working cattle, rodeoing, and hunting in McMullen County, and he carried that love of the ranchlife throughout his life. He enjoyed having a good set of Bradford cows and riding a well-bred horse. Jeff was a simple man who valued the things money couldn't buy-time on the ranch, his family and friends, a good meal, playing with his two grandsons, and the loyal companionship of his dog, Max. He loved to laugh, always wore a smile, and had a circle of faithful friends he cherished deeply. His greatest joy, however, was his family-his wife, son, daughter-in-law, and especially his two grandsons. On April 4, 1987, Jeff married the love of his life, Lisa, and they made their home on the family ranch in Loma Alta, Texas. After the birth of their son, they moved to Simmons, Texas, where they have lived ever since. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Lisa; his son, Clay, and daughter-in-law, Tristin Atkinson; his brother, Glen, and wife, Marsha Atkinson of Datil, New Mexico; his sister, Sandra, and husband, Michael Swaim of Tilden, Texas; and his treasured grandsons, Myles and Banner Atkinson. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Jeff was preceded in death by his parents, Pat and Nola Curry Atkinson. A visitation will be held Thursday, August 14, 2025 from 5 to 6:30 PM at The Covenant Life Fellowship Church in Three Rivers, Tx. with a prayer service to be held at 6 PM. A funeral service will be held Friday, August 15, 2025 at 10 AM at the Simmons Community Church with a burial to follow in the Simmons Cemetery. Services entrusted to Roberson Funeral Home Three Rivers, Tx.
