Josephine Schuenemann

Dateline: George West, Texas Josephine "Josie" Schuenemann, age 73, passed away on Thursday, August 28, 2025, in George West, Texas, following a sudden illness. Josie was born on March 22, 1952, to Ben Joseph and Doris Jane (Bridges) Pawelek in Poteet, Atascosa County, Texas. She earned her master's degree in counseling from Texas A&M University Corpus Christi and served as a counselor at Coastal Bend College, where much of her career was devoted to mentoring students in the TRIO program. She retired after a fulfilling career, but retirement for her looked a little different than most. Josie became a substitute teacher at George West ISD, where she enjoyed sharing stories about her children, their accomplishments, and the lessons she had learned throughout life. A devoted member of the First Baptist Church in George West, Josie served as a Sunday school teacher, Girls in Action leader, and Vacation Bible School volunteer. She faithfully wrote birthday cards to fellow church members and shared her faith through the women's jail ministry. She was preceded in death by her parents, Doris Jane Gohlke and Ben Joseph Pawelek; her brother, Jimmy Pawelek; and her son, Ryan Daniel Summerville. She is survived by her loving husband, Kenneth E. Schuenemann of George West; her children: Scotty (Katherine) Noble of Point Venture, Texas; Sara (John Paul) Benavidez of George West, Texas; Nathan (Rebecca) Summerville of Clarksville, Tennessee; Elizabeth (Jacob) Bentura of Austin, Texas; Amber Summerville of George West, Texas; and Jonathan Schuenemann of Garland, Texas. She is also survived by her brother, Ben Daniel (Laurel) Pawelek of San Marcos, Texas. Josie was blessed with 13 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and 2 nephews, all of whom loved her deeply and will miss her dearly. Visitation will be held on Friday, September 5, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Roberson Funeral Home in Three Rivers, Texas. Her Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in George West, Texas. Pallbearers will be John Paul Benavidez, Gilbert Davila, Henry Noble, Brandon Noble, Daniel Pawelek, and Daven Pawelek. Honorary pallbearers are Scotty Noble and Ben Pawelek. Services are entrusted to Roberson Funeral Home, Three Rivers.
