Jeffrey Claire Eckard passed away on Thursday, December 11, 2025. He was born on March 21, 1941, in Dalton, Ohio. Jeff was preceded in death by his parents, Wilbur and Helen Eckard, and his sister, Jill Suchik.

He is survived by his children, Stacy Eckard Stovall (Scott) and Jay Eckard (Shawn), and his grandchildren, Ben Stovall and Bevin, and Mitchell Eckard. He is also survived by "the love of his life," Nita Price. She is a precious soul that could match his humor, beat him in cards, and give him a run at golf. Nita was by Jeff's side until the very end. His family notes that she has earned many crowns in heaven for all she has been in his life.

Growing up in Ohio, Jeff held a variety of unique part-time jobs that surely contributed to his self-confidence in his handyman skill set. Jeff went to college at Iowa State to play football and was an all-time letterman in 1960. He later transferred to and graduated from Florida State. He said it was because he wasn't "good enough," but anyone who knew him has heard him say, "I hate cold weather." Jeff held a lifelong career as a dedicated teacher and coach. His teaching journey spanned several districts in the state of Georgia, including Atlanta City Schools, Rockdale County Schools, and finally Cobb County Schools, where he finished his professional tenure. He coached a variety of sports, including football, basketball, track, and his favorite, cross country. Jeff was known among his student-athletes for his warm wit, deep love of the sport, and the ultimate compliment of calling a standout performance "Cracker Jack." One of his fondest memories was coaching during the integration era in Atlanta City Schools in the 1960s as a young coach. In retirement, Jeff embraced personal fitness, enjoyed playing tennis with friends and his son, and took up golf. Jeff enjoyed the simple things: being "Grandad" to his grandkids, spending time with Nita, walking his dog, a good cup of black coffee, or a trip to Costco. He lived every day by his personal motto: "Every day is Sunday", noting that any day "above ground" was a gift. He will be deeply missed by his family and
friends.

There will be a celebration of life and remembrance held at a later date when all can share a beer, fond memories, and stories of Jeff's life. It was a full one, indeed.
