Jeffrey W. Grey of Ellenville, NY passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, April 25, 2023. He was 36 years old. Jeff was born on July 7, 1986 in Middletown, NY; the son of Bonnie (Ames) Grey and the late Wayne Grey.
Jeff graduated from Ellenville High School in 2004. He furthered his education at SUNY New Paltz and then Ulster County Community College.
Jeff had an unlimited amount of admirable qualities, though one of the most observable was his incredible work ethic, as demonstrated through his 20-year long career working for ShopRite. Through his various promotions over this time period, Jeff had recently acquired the title of Assistant Store Manager at ShopRite’s Chester location. Prior to this, he worked at Shoprite in Monticello and Liberty. This location is where he met and quickly fell for the love of his life, Kalyn. After 8 years of dating, and amongst a breathtaking lake sunset, Jeff and Kalyn were joined in marriage on September 3, 2022. This union was blessed by Kalyn’s daughter, Kylie, whom Jeff affectionately called “Miss Kylie” and whom she referred to as “Chep” which quickly became “Daddy”. Jeff loved and cared for Kylie as his own daughter and took on the role of being a father without hesitation. The two created and shared an inseparable bond- fostered through Jeff’s dedication in teaching his little girl how to navigate the world and enjoy the simple things in life, including chess, legos and playing outside.
Amongst those who knew him, Jeff was deemed the “knower of all things”- an absorber of knowledge and open encyclopedia. He had an insatiable thirst for learning and was constantly reading and making notes; spouting fun-facts ranging from physics to current events. In his down-time, Jeff loved playing board games and vintage video games. He looked forward to their weekly family game nights at home.
In addition to his wife, Kalyn Jacobs-Grey and daughter, Kylie, Jeff is survived by his mother, Bonnie Grey; his sisters, Erin Grey and Carly O’Keefe-Grey; his Nana, Dolores Ames; his mother-in-law, Crista Hoeffner as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and his “ShopRite family”. To say Jeff’s departure from this world has been a devastation to those who loved him would be an immense understatement. His smile, sense of humor, immeasurable intelligence, and laid-back personality will be missed by all who were lucky enough to know him.
Memorial visiting hours will be held on Monday, May 8th from 4:00 – 7:00pm, with a celebration of his life beginning at 6:00 pm at Loucks Funeral Home, 79 North Main St., Ellenville.
Contributions in Jeff's memory may be made to benefit Kylie's future. Checks may be made out to Kalyn or Kylie Jacobs and mailed to c/o P.O. Box 268, Thompsonville, NY 12784.
