Jeffrey Mark Hartzell, 61, of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., died Saturday, December 4, 2021, in The Washington Hospital.
He was born October 27, 1960, in Fort Campbell, Ky., a son of the late Patricia Naomi Gray Hartzell, who also died December 4, 2021, and the late Earl "Dude" Hartzell, who died July 26, 2006.
Mr. Hartzell graduated from Trinity High School in 1978 and served in the United States Air Force as a helicopter mechanic, retiring as a technical sergeant. His awards include the Air Force Achievement Medal with 2 oak leaf clusters, Air Force Commendation Medal with 1 oak leaf cluster, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, NCO Professional Military Education Ribbon with 1 oak leaf cluster, National Defense Service Medal with bronze service star, Air Force Overseas Long Tour Ribbon, Air Force Overseas Short Tour Ribbon with 1 oak leaf cluster, Armed Forces Service Medal with 1 oak leaf cluster, Southwest Asia Service Medal with 2 oak leaf clusters, Air Force Training Ribbon, Air Force Longevity Service Award with 4 oak leaf clusters, Kuwait Liberation Medal-Saudi Arabia, Kuwait Liberation Medal-Kuwait, Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with valor, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with 5 oak leaf clusters, Air Force Good Conduct Award with 5 oak leaf clusters, Air Force Organizational Excellence Award, and Humanitarian Service Medal.
Mr. Hartzell was a great storyteller who enjoyed farming, horses, NASCAR, and collecting model cars and coins. He loved classic cars, especially the '57 Chevy.
Surviving are two daughters, Benrenna (Austin) Lincoln and Nikkole (Colby) Brookens, both of Fort Walton Beach; a brother, Brian (Angela) Hartzell of Carolina Beach, N.C.; a sister, Lorraine (Paul) Warnick of Claysville; five grandchildren, Rilyn Hoffmaster, Mason Brookens, Emma Brookens, Olivia Lincoln and Alexander Lincoln; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, December 9, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, December 10. Burial will follow in West Finley Cemetery.
