Jeffrey Dean Hash

Jeffrey Dean Hash passed away on November 13, 2025, with his wife, Patty Scott, by his side. He leaves behind Patty of Coos Bay; his sister Jennifer Brown and brother-in-law Deny Brown of Edmonton, AB Canada; his step-father, Nate Perkins of Indianapolis, IN; and several cherished nieces, grandnieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, David Hash and Arleen Perkins.

Jeff was born on December 6, 1965, in Beech Grove, IN, to David and Arleen. After graduating from high school, he attended Indiana University, where he studied math and computer science. It was there that he discovered his lifelong passion for computers and for solving problems through technology. Also, at this time his love for bike racing and participating in triathlons deepen. His work in the IT field took him to St. Louis, Miami, and Indianapolis before he eventually made his home in Oregon in 1998.

On June 16, 2001, Jeff married the love of his life, Patty Scott, and together they built a warm and joyful life in Coos Bay. They shared a deep affection for their Border Collies, long walks on the beach and in the woods, the simple pleasure of tending their garden and doing work for the neighborhood as part of the HOA board.

In the early 2000s, Jeff embarked on a new career path, earning a BS in Radiologic Technology from OIT in 2006. Yet it was in education that he found his true calling. Jeff taught math and computer science at Southwestern Oregon Community College for several years and later served as a student specialist in the TRIO program, supporting first-generation and low-income students. He especially loved mentoring young men-helping them discover confidence, purpose, and the excitement of learning. His encouragement changed many lives, and his kindness will be remembered by countless students.

A Celebration of Life will be held in Indianapolis, Indiana on June 27, 2026 at 2 pm (location to be determined); in Coos Bay, Oregon, at OCCI on the Southwestern Oregon Community College campus on July 11, 2026 at 2 pm; and graveside at the Lostine Cemetery in Lostine, Oregon, on August 7, 2026 at 2 pm.

In honor of Jeff's generous spirit, contributions may be made to the Southwestern Oregon Community College Foundation where a scholarship will be created or to any local Border Collie rescue organization.
