Jeffrey "Jeff" Wallace Hutchison, age 46, of Houston, Texas, formerly of Independence, Kansas, passed away unexpectedly on June 2, 2025, at his residence.
Born on February 1, 1979, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Jeff was the eldest son of Jeffrey Eugene and Betty Marie (Fowler) Hutchison. He shared a close bond with his younger brother, BJ, during their childhood. Following Jeff's birth, his father received an honorable discharge from the U.S. Navy, and the family relocated to Blackwell, Oklahoma. When Jeff was about four years old, they moved to Marion, Kansas, and later to Independence, where he completed the largest part of his secondary education. In his junior year of high school, the family moved to Bartlesville, Oklahoma, where Jeff excelled in accelerated classes and graduated early with honors from Bartlesville High School. During this time, he also enrolled in college courses at Independence Community College, ultimately completing his associate degree before transitioning to the University of Oklahoma in Norman, where he earned his bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Jeff married Jennifer Evans and the couple made their home in Houston, of that union Jeff gained a stepson Jake. The couple later divorced but Jeff had remained in a close relationship with Jake.
Professionally, Jeff began his career in Houston, Texas, working with Imperial, followed by roles at Jacobs Linder, Saudi Aramco, and W.S. Nelson Sr. He served as owner JW Hutch Co. and was employed beginning in 2017 at Solar Turbines up to time of his passing. Throughout his career, he demonstrated his commitment to personal and professional growth by completing his Master of Engineering Management at Ohio University and obtaining a Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Data Science from Columbia University.
Jeff was a self-motivated computer geek and was known for his exceptional expertise in computer programming, developing specialized software aimed at enhancing production management and document control. His remarkable intellect and self-motivated nature propelled him to continuously seek knowledge and improvement, as he approached every endeavor with unwavering dedication.
Valuing his relationships deeply, Jeff maintained a strong concern for the wellbeing of his family and friends, always eager to assist them in any capacity, whether by addressing their challenges or providing support in resolution.
Jeff is survived by his father and stepmother, Jeffrey "Jeff" Eugene and Julie Hutchison; step son, Jake Evans, his brother, B.J. Hutchison; his stepsister, Cara Fisher; his nephew, James Hutchison; and his niece, Piper Hutchison. He is also survived by a host of aunts Rhea McPheeters, Ruth Bechtle (Greg), Donna Corrigan (Todd), Angela Guse (Jim), Sheri LeBlanc (Roger), Karen Cramer (Jim) and uncle Carl Scott (Joyce), cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Betty M. (Fowler) Hutchison; his infant brother, James Matthew Hutchison; his uncles, Bill Fowler, Larry Hutchison and Tom McPheeters; and both maternal and paternal grandparents.
The family will welcome friends on Friday, June 27, 2025, at Potts Chapel from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A memorial service will take place at the chapel on June 28, 2025, at 10:00 AM, officiated by Pastor Shannon Dozier of Convergence Church. Inurnment will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest alongside his mother, Betty, and his infant brother, James Matthew Hutchison.
