Jeff Kirschbaum, 60, of Ankeny, passed away, surrounded by his family, on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, from complications of a heart attack.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, at Our Lady's Immaculate Heart Catholic Church (510 E. 1st St). A prayer service will follow at 11:00 a.m. Private burial will take place at Ankeny Memorial Gardens.
Jeff was born on July 11, 1964, in Greeley, Colorado to Jerry and Irene (Hruska) Kirschbaum. He lived in Austin and Rochester, Minnesota until 1976, when he and his family moved to Ankeny, Iowa. Jeff graduated from Ankeny High School in 1982. Soon after, he began working at the Strawberry Patch, a specialty retail store, started by his parents. Over the next 45 years, Strawberry Patch would evolve into a screen print/embroidery business, with Jeff taking over the operations when his parents retired. Through Strawberry Patch, Jeff gave much of his time, and donated money and merchandise to various causes within the community.
Jeff met Cindy Spooner (Campie) in the fall of 2001, and they married April 20, 2002. From that day on, Jeff loved and raised her daughter, Alayna, as his own. In January 2003, they welcomed daughter, GraceAnn, followed by Samantha in December 2004, and Olivia in April 2006. He was the absolute best "girl dad", never missing a single school function, dance competition, or anything else the girls had going on. In August of 2014, Jeff's first grandchild, Brayden, was born. They became buddies immediately, often going on bike rides, to superhero movies, and to their favorite restaurant, Hu Hot. This past August, his granddaughter arrived. Aileen lit up his world and he spent as much time as he could with her, looking forward to hanging out with her when she got older.
Jeff was the kind of person who didn't know a stranger. He was kind to all he met, cherished his family and his friendships, and was proud to be a part of the Ankeny community.
Jeff is survived by his wife of 23 years, Cindy; daughters, Alayna, GraceAnn, Samantha, and Olivia; grandchildren, Brayden Spooner and Aileen Crees; father, Jerry; and sisters, Debbie (Rodney) Slump and Kimberly (Hugh) Brown. He is preceded in death by his mother, Irene; in-laws, Alvin and Aileen (Tootie) Campie; and several aunts and uncles.

As a child Jeff let me run around Strawberry Patch with the girls, which was such a fun memory. He didn´t even complain when we got into his work areas and made a mess. He was fun, caring, and accommodating. He would always make or buy me lunch or dinner when I hung out with Gracie. The whole family is filled with love and generosity, which Jeff has clearly taught to his girls. God is surely alongside this beautiful family.
