Jeffrey L. McCord, 74, of Elkhart, passed away on Friday, Feb. 27, 2026, with his family by his side at his home. He was born on Dec. 13, 1951, to Charles and Margaret McCord in Muncie, Indiana. He married Theresa L. "Terrie" Zirkelbach on Jan. 13, 1973, in Muncie; she preceded him in death on July 14, 2014.
Jeff honorably served his country in the United States Navy. He served during the Vietnam era. He was a lifetime member of the DAV 19 in Elkhart. He worked as an outside plant engineer for GTE/Verizon/Frontier. Communication Engineer for NRTC Fiber optics and retired as an outside plant engineer for ATCO Communications in Elkhart, IN. He was an avid Cleveland Browns fan and Notre Dame University football fan. Jeff loved to spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Jeff is survived by his sons, Spartacus (Shelly Lynch) McCord of Elkhart, Indiana, Nathaniel Sr. (Angel) McCord of Elkhart, Indiana, and Jeremy (David Osborn) McCord of Elkhart; his grandchildren Brittney McCord, Kain McCord, Nate McCord, Michael McCord, Tyler Evans, Austin Evans, Alana Evans, Makayla McCord, Madelyn McCord, Cole McCord and Cayden McCord; his great-grandchildren Aidyn, Ryder, Dimitri, Bowde, Steele, Weston, Boston, Maddox, Harlynn, Holden and Paisley; his nephews, Randy McCord Jr., William Whisenant and Charles Whisenant. Jeff was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Margaret McCord, wife Terrie McCord, brother Randall McCord and sister Karla McCord
Visitation for Jeff will be Thursday, March 5 from 4-7 p.m. at Stemm-Lawson- Peterson Funeral Home, 1531 Cobblestone Blvd., Elkhart, where funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 6 at the funeral home. Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Friday. Jeff will be laid to rest next to his wife Terrie at Little Pine Cemetery where he will have military honors.
