Jeffrey T Monroe passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family September 2, 2025, after a brief illness. Jeff graduated from Wilson Central School in 1980. Shortly after graduation Jeff followed in his father's footsteps and joined Wilson Volunteer Fire Co. #1. Not long after that he met the love of his life Dawn Brown Monroe. Jeff spent many years working at Wilson Central School where he was affectionately known as "Janitor Jeff" and touched the lives of many generations of students, you always knew where he was in the hall by the jingle of his keys. In his years with Wilson Fire Company he held many positions, most proudly as Chief, with his son serving alongside him as assistant Chief. Jeff was certified on the dive rescue team, smoke diver, and NYS EMT-B where he had the accomplishment of many CPR saves. Much to his pride Jeff passed the love of the fire company on to both of his children Jena and Seth leaving Dawn home as "the only one in the family who doesn't play with firetrucks". Jeff was a man that served his family and friends, if there was a need he was everyone's first call. Jeff loved to be with people, all people. He had a story to tell everyone, and everyone wanted to hear them. Jeff enjoyed camping with his family and friends. He enjoyed cooking for all and had a following for his Wilson famous chicken wings around Wilson to different establishments. Recently Jeff found his old love for RC cars and passed it onto his grandkids where he ran "Papa's racing team". Jeff enjoyed hunting and fishing and loved to fish with the grandkids, mostly baiting hooks and making memories.

Jeff was welcomed into his heavenly home by his parents Jim and Sharon Monroe and his in-laws Carl and Barbara Brown, as well as a couple of grandchildren we never to got meet on this earth. Jeff is survived by his wife Dawn Brown Monroe and their 2 children Jena (Robert) Champion, Seth (Ashlee) Monroe and his 4 pride and joy grandchildren Renton, Emerson (Fin), Easton, and Heavenly. His dearest sister Tammy (Gary) Darnell. Brother in laws/ Sister in laws Sherry (Curtis) Horanburg, Mark (Lori) Brown, Renee Carpenter. His dearest "California cousin" Sanra Acosta. Most cherished friends Pat and Anne Daul, Lynne and Peter Swendsen. Several nieces and Nephews Brandon, Amber, Nick, Jesse, Jeremy, Zack, Makena, Ty. Lastly his extended Brother and Sisterhood at Wilson Fire Company #1.

In this time of sorrow and loss Jeff would want everyone to remember "it is what it is". He would want us all to look up the poem "The Dash" by Linda Ellis and make each day matter most, help a neighbor, help a friend, put your good into this world. In lieu of flowers Jeff asked that memorials be made to Wilson Fire Company #1 "Jeffs memorial ice cream fund" or the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation.

On Saturday September 13th2025, a short memorial and praise service will be held at Wilson First Baptist Church at 11:00 am with a celebration of life service and luncheon to follow at Wilson Fire Company #1 at 12:00pm. To know and to love Jeff was to know he was a humble man. He asked that in all we do for him we keep it casual and keep it simple and love each other. Please keep this wishes for him and come comfortably in casual attire for a relaxed day with good food and better conversation to share our memories, just as he wished.
