Jeffrey Glenn "Toby" Myers

Jeffrey "Toby" Myers of Nashville, Indiana, passed away at home after a long battle with cancer on Thursday, January 16, 2025.
Toby was born on September 26,1949, in Indianapolis, and grew up in Traders Point. He graduated from Pike High School. He developed an interest in music and began playing bass in a music shop next to the laundromat where his mother did the family's laundry. Myers enjoyed playing in bands in high school. His love of art landed him at Herron School of Art from 1968-1971, but music was his passion.
Myers lived next door to keyboard player Michael Read, one of the founding members of Pure Funk, a popular Indianapolis college funk band. Myers joined Pure Funk as their bass player in 1971. In 1974, Pure Funk changed its name to Roadmaster. Roadmaster was a successful band which was discovered by Todd Rungren and ultimately recorded four albums for Village/Mercury Records. Myers then toured the world and recorded with John Mellencamp from 1982 to 1999.
His only child, Cash was born in 1999; he decided to stop touring and be a stay at home dad. He still had a music studio and rehearsal space in Nashville, Indiana. He was in a few bands, No Net, Daisy Chain, and, on occasion, he played with Don Wilson's Mellencougar.
He is survived by his ex-wife Roberta Chirko, son Cash Myers, nieces Natalie Kaye Myers and Erin Lee Myers, and brother-in-law Robert Chirko. He was adored by extended family throughout the country. He is preceded in death by his father, William "Bill" Myers, mother Betty Jean Synder Myers, and brother Mark Myers.
A Celebration of Life and CD release party will be held on March 2, 2025 at Brown County Playhouse, 70 S Van Buren Street, Nashville, IN, 47448, from 2-4 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Brown County Art Guild where he enjoyed volunteering.
