Jeffrey Peterek Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Brown Funeral Home & Cremation Services - Niles on Oct. 11, 2023.
Jeffrey Peterek, a man known for his unwavering optimism and adventurous spirit, passed away of natural causes on October 8, 2023 in Niles, Michigan. Born on September 22, 1962 in Michigan City, Indiana, Jeff lived a fulfilling life leaving an indelible mark on all who were fortunate enough to know him.
Jeff was an extremely gifted athlete from a young age, and upon graduation from high school, his elite talent on the baseball field attracted the attention of several colleges. He went on to embrace the opportunity to play the sport he loved, quickly rising to the pinnacle of his craft with the impressive chance to play professional baseball. Jeff's talent and determination led him to a successful career playing for the Milwaukee Brewers in the Major Leagues, an experience most people could only dream of. His passion for sports was palpable, not only in his professional baseball career, but also in his personal life where he was later found ready to cheer on his nieces and nephews in all their athletic endeavors. While baseball took Jeff to many different areas of the world, he also always found time to root for his beloved Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
After his career from Major League baseball, Jeff embarked on a new chapter in his life, applying the same dedication and commitment from his athletic career to a Real Estate business in Southwest Michigan.
Jeff was a man of many interests and passions even outside of baseball, never leaving a conversation without his contribution of thought. He was an avid reader and very much enjoyed spending time outdoors. His love for travel over the years gave him such an appreciation for world culture, each journey adding to his repertoire of interesting stories.
Jeff's legacy is carried forward by his loving family. He is survived by his mother, Patricia (Waaso) Peterek of Niles; a sister, Roberta Craig of Las Vegas, Nevada; nieces and nephews, Madelynn Peterek of Chicago, Illinois, Lindsay Craig of Tampa, Florida, Mitchell (Camille) Peterek of Troy, Michigan, Dustan Craig of O' Fallon, Missouri, Maureen (Angel) Magana of Las Vegas, Nevada, Tyler Peterek of Niles and Sean Craig of Bangor, Washington. He also leaves behind two cherished great-nieces, Melody Magana and Maeve Peterek, along with a host of other aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends who will miss his dry sense of humor and warmth. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Peterek; his brother, Michael Peterek and brother-in-law, Jim Craig.
A memorial service will be held at Brown Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Niles on Saturday, October 14, 2023 at 4:00p.m. with a time of visitation beginning at 3:00p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.

I bought a house from Jeff it was his first closing. Jeff helped me move in and he became one of my closest friends. I have two daughters and even though Jeff was not a blood relative he was the best uncle my daughter's could have had. To this day my daughter's referred to him as Uncle Jeff. I rescued a dog and had to bring it to the pound because my dog and it would not get along. I called Jeff and asked if he would go to the dog pound and adopt the dog. Jeff and I went to the dog pound it was a Rottweiler mix and smelled terrible at first Jeff said no and we left a few hours later he called and said let's get him. Jeff named him Hacker his beloved Rottweiler.
Goodbye my friend you are missed
