Jeffrey A. Roberts of Wolcott passed away unexpectedly on August 22, 2024.
Jeff was born in Ludlow, MA and a 1984 graduate of Ludlow High School. He attended Springfield Technical Community College and then graduated from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in 1992 with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. He continued with his education and earned his Master of Science in Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1994.
Jeff worked at the Torrington Company for many years after graduating from WPI before deciding he wanted to become a teacher. He received his teaching certificate from the Connecticut Alternate Route to Certification (ARC) and first taught at Thomaston High School for six years and presently at Plainville High School for the last 12 years. Jeff was also involved with FIRST Robotics for many years and a mentor for the Wolcott High School team MAX. Jeff was meant to be an engineer. He loved to figure out and find solutions to problems. Even more so, he was meant to be a teacher. The education field and his students are so lucky to have had him.
Jeff will be forever missed by his wife, love and best friend, Darilyn (Reuter) Roberts, his son Kevin and his wife Taylor and his daughter Jenna. His family was the most important thing to Jeff, he loved them and being with them and he was so proud of his two children.
Jeff will also always be missed by his parents, Jack and Alice Roberts; sister Dawn Fontaine and her husband Robert; in-laws Phil and Judie Reuter, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Steve and Dawn Godek;
cousin Vonda Tencza and her husband Matt and nieces and nephews Sarah, Becky and Bobby Fontaine, Sarah, Rachel and Jack, Mary, Claire and Zach Godek, Ben and Kim Tencza.
Jeff and Dari recently began working with Fidelco Guide Dog Foundation to house and start training puppies before they begin formal training to become a seeing eye dog. Jeff loved all three dogs they have had and will also be missed by Brickley, who they were able to adopt due to digestive issues, and Maverick and Theona. Jeff was so happy and excited to find out that Brickley was coming home to stay with them.
Jeff was so much to so many people. He was always up for an adventure from camping to beer tasting to finding tag sales to an old car show. He never sat still for long. He loved the Grateful Dead and tie dye and made many questionable fashion choices. He was so excited about his Shelby Cobra that he purchased as a scratch kit and was totally building himself. He was always up for a bike ride and definitely led his friends on some crazy ones over the years. He loved to play any game and loved to win. If you needed to talk, he was there and if you needed help, he was right there too. He was an amazing person and an even better friend. We are so lucky to have known and learned from him.
"Fare you well, fare you well
I love you more than words can tell"
~Brokedown Palace by Grateful Dead

I am so very sorry to hear of Jeff's untimely passing. I was assigned to his Physics class one year to assist with labs as part of the Plainville Community Schools Tutoring and Mentoring Program. Several years later, my daughter Hailey was one of Jeff's students. His passion for the subject and enthusiasm was contagious. What a good man taken from the world too soon. My sincerest condolences.

I wish the family my sincere condolences. Mr. Roberts was such a wonderful teacher and cemented himself as one of my favorites when I had him 2 years ago. Extremely kind and thoughtful person, always talked about his wonderful family, and had a true passion for teaching and helping students learn physics. He will be missed dearly by me and my fellow classmates.

One of the best human beings I've had the pleasure of being friends with throughout my travels and home stays.
His honesty and trueness was not to be doubted.
I am very lucky to have had the pleasure of spending the time I did with him. From conversation to ice fishing in VT.
I may have been distant for the last 20 years, but he was and always will be, one of the true friends I've had.
Rest in peace.

Mr. Roberts was my daughter's teacher in her senior year at PHS. I was immediately impressed at the Open House when he was explain to us the various lessons he had planned for the class. His eyes lit up and made it very interesting. Mr. Roberts nominated my daughter, Tessa, for Women in Science award, which she won. He encouraged her greatly throught her senior year, providing advice, writing recommendations, and inspiring her to pursue Environmental Science. Thank you, Mr. Roberts for being an amazing teacher and role model. You will be missed.
To his family, Thank you for sharing him with PHS. We are praying for you and sending love.
