MASSENA - Jeffrey Stone, age 70, passed away on December 24, 2025, in Massena.
Jeffrey was born in
Massena, New York, to the late Norma Stone and Howard Stone, and he spent his life rooted in the community he loved. He was a proud graduate of Canton ATC and dedicated his career to helping others, retiring as a Substance Abuse Counselor with the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision.
In 1987, Jeffrey overcame his own struggles with addiction, a turning point that shaped the rest of his life. He became an avid and devoted member of the Alcoholics Anonymous community, where he spent decades mentoring, supporting, and encouraging others. His compassion knew no bounds-he often opened his home to those in need and walked beside countless individuals on their paths to recovery.
Jeffrey was a devoted Christian and an active member of his church. His faith guided his actions and service, both locally and beyond. He participated in mission work in India through Kairos and traveled with fellow church members to New Orleans to volunteer following Hurricane Katrina. Earlier in his life, he also served as a volunteer with the Massena Rescue Squad in the early 1980s.
He shared 30 loving years with his life partner, Linda Austin, who predeceased him in 2022.
Jeffrey was a devoted stepfather to Trevor Austin and Christopher Austin, and a proud grandfather to many grandchildren. He especially cherished attending their sporting events and being present in their lives.
Jeffrey is survived by his brothers, Gerald Stone and his wife Victoria, and Richard Stone; his sisters, Rande Ashley and her husband Victor, and Debbie Felch and her husband Hal; as well as many nieces and nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
Known for his kindness, honesty, and unwavering integrity, Jeffrey cared deeply for people and helped whenever he could. He found joy in walking his dogs no matter the weather, camping with friends and family, traveling with loved ones, and sharing good meals together. He looked forward to attending church wherever he was-or listening on the radio when he couldn't be there in person.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, December 30, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. The funeral service will take place on Wednesday, December 31, at 11:00 a.m., with a luncheon to follow.
