Jeffrey "Jeff" L. Walters, age 74, passed away on April 25, 2025 at St. Vincent Indianapolis. He was born on October 2, 1950 to Mary (Williams) Walters and Robert Walters in Crawfordsville.
Jeff was graduate of New Ross High School, Class of 1968. He joined the Indiana National Guard in 1968, serving 4 years. Jeff started his career at Indiana Bell Telephone in 1968 as a lineman, splicer and then manager, until his retirement from AT&T in 2008. After retirement, he worked part time at Home Depot. The last 6 years, Jeff worked at the Montgomery County Sheriff's Department. He was a member of Crossroads Community Church.
Jeff learned to love/hate the game of golf. He enjoyed attending all of his grandchildren's sporting events. Jeff spent hours talking on the phone to family and friends, trying to keep connected. He loved gardening and keeping his yard neatly mowed and weed free.
Jeff married Brenda (Durbin) Walters in 1971 and again in 1979. They have three children, Angela (Dan) Wemer, Jackie Nekolite and Ryan (Tara) Walters. He was a very proud Papaw of Cole (Ally) Wemer, Cierra Wright, Kale Wemer, Brasen Walters, Samaya Morton, Judaen Walters, MaKenna Nekolite and Solomon Walters. He is also survived by his siblings, Larry (Deb) Walters, Pam Zachary and Mike (Debra) Walters; a bonus brother-in-law, Bill Durbin; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Jeff was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Connie Truax; and sister-in-law, Vickey Durbin.
A memorial gathering will be held at Legacy Church, 1047 SR 47 in Crawfordsville on Friday, May 2, 2025 from 2-5pm with a service at 4:30pm. A graveside service will follow at Mace Cemetery with military honors provided by the United States Army and American Legion Post 72. Per Jeff's wishes, he will be cremated.
