It is with deep sorrow and enduring faith that the family of Jeff Schmidt announce that he has passed into the presence of our Lord and Savior on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at his home in Aitkin, MN.

Born to Cecil and Barbara Schmidt (Webber) in Alexandria, Virginia on July 26, 1962, as their first-born. Shortly after his birth, they moved to Bloomington, Minnesota where he grew up and became a vibrant and energetic young man engaging in sports and music. Graduating as a High Achiever from Lincoln High School in 1980, he went on to attend The United States Military Academy, West Point in New York. Upon graduation, Jeff earned his commission into the US Army as a Second Lieutenant.

Following his graduation from the Academy in 1984, he completed the Infantry Officer Basic Course, Ranger School, and Airborne School before receiving his assignment at Fort Wainwright, Alaska. During a low altitude jump his parachute failed to deploy due to high winds, falling 1,000 feet. He miraculously survived with multiple injuries that would eventually lead to his military medical retirement. During his recovery, he transferred to Ft. Richardson in Anchorage where he would meet his wife, Jordana. She would go on to tease him during their adventurous years of marriage, that "God had to slow him down so she could catch him!"

Jeff and Jordana were married in Bloomington, Minnesota in 1987. During his first few years as a civilian, he worked as a Fleet Manager for Snyder International Trucking in California and Minnesota dispatching oversized and heavy equipment across the U.S. Not feeling challenged enough, he decided to follow in his father's footsteps and study law. He attended William Mitchell College of Law in Minneapolis and graduated in 1994. He collaborated with multiple local law firms and effectively utilized his engineering background in the investigation and litigation of significant insurance fraud and catastrophic loss claims.

Over the years, Jeff enjoyed hunting, fishing, attending bible studies, coaching his son's football team, and taking family trips to Alaska and the great shores of Northern Minnesota. He was passionate about continuing to serve our country by serving our troops who sustained injuries and were recovering at the VA in Minneapolis. Jeff used his cooking skills and his compassion for fellow vets by serving them and their families with hearty homemade meals at the Fisher House.

Jeff was a devoted husband, committed father, caring grandfather, as well as a respected son, brother, and uncle to his family and those who knew him. After 35 years living in Bloomington, they decided to relocate north to Aitkin to be closer to nature and a quieter environment while Jeff continued his treatment for cancer and other health conditions.

His surviving family includes his wife, Jordana Schmidt, of Aitkin, MN, and his children: Bridgette Moos (with Brandon and daughter Mia) in Minnesota; Leo Schmidt (with Ludmila and daughter Clarina) in Brazil; and Carl Schmidt (with Anna) in Alaska. Father, Cecil Schmidt; Mother, Barbara Schmidt, Minnesota; Brother, Thomas Schmidt (with Gina and son Noah and daughter Grace) Minnesota.

Jeff will be remembered for his kind heart and courage while standing in the gap for those in need, his deep faith in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, and for his devotion to his family and friends who had the pleasure of knowing him and spending time creating memories by his side.

A private memorial will be held at a later date. This is not the end, my God will finish what He started… well done, Jeff. You are a good and faithful servant.
