Jennett Arlin Stevens (Couts), 93, after a brief illness, passed on to her heavenly home on September 22, 2025, in Columbus, Ohio.
She was born on February 17, 1932, to Marion (Robinson) and Edward Couts. She was married to William Weldon Stevens from 1950 until his passing in 1960. She dedicated her professional life to serving as a security clearance specialist at the Defense Construction Supply Center (DCSC), now known as the Defense Supply Center Columbus (DSCC), before retiring.
Jennett found joy in simple pleasures and pastimes. She was an avid bowler, bowling in a league until the age of 92. She enjoyed the challenge of jigsaw puzzles, keeping a table set up in her family room. Card games like pinochle brought her many hours of enjoyment with her Thursday ‘afternoon until dark’ card club, playing with friends Miss Aretha, Miss Cleo and Miss Mary. She was also on her computer every night playing pinochle. She loved to dance and was a member of the Snappy Senior Tappers well into her late 70’s. She loved and spoiled her Chow Chow, Norma, whom she affectionately called Sweetie Girl. She cherished her daily twice a day walks with her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Weldon Stevens; her parents, Marion (Robinson) and Edward Couts; sisters Alice Rogan and Shirley Ward; brothers Edward Couts Jr. and Norman Couts; niece Joyce Hammond, son-in-law David Brinkley, and son in love David Anderson.
Jennett is lovingly remembered by her sister Dorothy "Flo" Smith and brother Jack Couts. Her legacy continues through her devoted children: W. Keith (Tracy) Stevens, John Stevens, Linda (Steve) Johnson, Nancy (Ralph Thompson) Brinkley, and Douglas Stevens. She was a devoted grandmother to David "Tone" (Natasha) Brinkley, Amber (Tony Rice) Stevens, Chay (Demicha) Rankin, Kevin Pearson, Brandin Bowman, Ashlee Stevens, Derek (Alexander) Brinkley, Nia Brinkley, Nisa Brinkley, Kendall Johnson, and Lola King Stevens. Her great-grandchildren—Keion Stevens; Tyson and Tony (III) Cornett; Elijah Stevens; Chayla and Chloe Rankin; Nyla and Dain Brinkley—brought her immense pride and joy. She was also blessed to have several daughters in love, including Sharon Stevens, Nancy Bowman, Angela Haynes McKinley, Lois Harris (son Javier) and Patricia Shepherd.
She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends who will remember her fondly.
Special thanks to Mount Carmel St. Anns for their compassionate care.
