John Eugene Payne, age 65, of Ironton, OH, passed away on September 14, 2025 at SOMC Hospice. Born on March 6, 1960, John was a lifelong resident of the area and a proud alumni of Rock Hill High School.

John was a devoted father and grandfather. He is survived by his loving daughters, Brittany Knipp, Courtney Payne, and Nicole Powell, and his cherished grandchildren, Rylen Knipp, Reagan Wilson, Bryson Wilson, Kassidy Lyons, Mekenzie Pennington, Cash Lyons and Brantley Browning. John was also a beloved fiancé to Cheri Massie and is survived by his brothers, Bill Payne and Carl Payne.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Faye Payne, as well as his brothers, Mike Payne and Steve Payne.

Before retiring, John ran his own drywall business and spent much of his career working in the field. Outside of work, he found joy in playing cards and bingo, where he built lasting, lifelong friendships. John was also a passionate sports fan, always cheering for the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Cincinnati Bengals.

Although John’s physical presence will be greatly missed, his legacy of love and commitment to his family will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him. In lieu of flowers or donations, the family kindly requests that you contact his daughter, Brittany Knipp, for any arrangements via email at [email protected].
