Jennie M. Singleton, born on June 10, 1942, in Virginia, passed away peacefully on January 11, 2026, at the age of 83 in her beloved home state. Jennie's life was a testament to love, resilience, and joy, touching everyone who had the privilege to know her.
Jennie's career began as a Secretary at NASA, where she contributed to the pioneering spirit of space exploration. She later became a cherished Sales Associate at Rite Aid Pharmacy, where her warmth and kindness were felt by colleagues and customers alike. Her professional journey was marked by dedication and an unwavering commitment to excellence.
A true homemaker at heart, Jennie found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She loved to read and often lost herself in the pages of a good book. Her hands were rarely still, always crafting beautiful homemade creations that reflected her creativity and care. Jennie had a special fondness for watching her birds and squirrels frolic in the yard, finding peace and delight in their presence. The role she took most seriously was being a mother. She was always involved in all her children's activities to include sports, Girl Scouts, PTA and volunteering for school activities.
Her love for Coca-Cola and pop burgers was legendary among those who knew her, as was her deep affection for her animals. Her cherished cats, Cleo and Ramsey, and her beloved Great Dane, Maldoon, were more than pets; they were family. Jennie's heart was full of love for them, and it brings comfort to her family to imagine them reunited now.
Jennie was a devoted member of Grafton Christian Church, where her faith was a guiding light throughout her life. Her spiritual journey was complemented by her educational pursuits, having attended college with the same passion she brought to all aspects of her life.
Preceded in death by her loving parents, Ida Marie and Archie Johnson, along with her dear pets Cleo, Ramsey, and Maldoon, Jennie's legacy of love continues through her surviving family. Her devoted children, Stephen and Ashley Singleton; Jennifer and Michael Christian; Stephanie and David Freeman; her loving brother Michael and his wife Kathy Johnson; and her cherished grandchildren, Hazel Singleton, Tyler,(Khia)Christian, and Holly and Megan Freeman, all carry forward the light she brought into their lives.
A private service will be held to celebrate her life, In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Jennie's name to the Hospice House of Williamsburg, reflecting her enduring spirit of generosity and care for others.
