Jerald Roy Bailey

Jerald R. Bailey, 84, a lifetime resident of Battle Creek, passed away on Thursday, February 20, 2025, after a long battle with Alzheimer's. He was born on September 26, 1940 to Roy and Laura Bailey.
"Jerry" graduated from Battle Creek Central High School in 1958, where he excelled as a golfer and became captain of the golf team. He continued his studies at Western Michigan University but soon found himself in a sales career at Central Tool Supply. He later joined his parents at the family business, Bailey Jewelers. He eventually became the owner and operator of the jewelry store along with his loving wife of over 60 years, MaryAnn Bailey. Together they helped Battle Creek families experience the excitement of opening a "Bailey Box" on Christmas morning or other special occasions.
Jerry was a proud family man and actively supported his children in all their endeavors. He cheered them on from the stands of Wattles Park baseball and softball fields and countless swimming meets at Harper Creek and throughout the state. He was also active in the Harper Creek Optimists, where he served as President, and enjoyed many years of the Victoria Plaza Ball.
Jerry, an avid fisherman and hunter, spent his weekends on Lake Michigan, out of South Haven, aboard his boats, Sorry Charlie and Beetle Bailey. He often filled the coolers with fish and shared the bounty with family and friends. He donated to the annual South Haven community fish fry and held several neighborhood fish fries over the years. The entire Bailey family cherishes the memories they have of the lake adventures, whether it was fishing, watching fireworks or just taking a joy ride on the boat. His hunting seasons were spent on Big Marsh Farm, Fairchild's Farm and for the last 10 years on a family hunting property. He has several hunting successes proudly displayed in his trophy room.
Jerry is survived by his wife, MaryAnn Bailey; 3 daughters, Tammi Palmiter, Angela Bailey, Kristin Boyd; son, Jeff (Bethany) Bailey; grandchildren, David Danke, Jr., Stephanie Palmiter, Blake (Kristen) Danis, Bailey (Michael) Jozwiak, Brie (Brandon) Case and Jaret Bailey; great-grandchildren, Leeann, Hailey, Aiden, Liam, Clayton, Parker and Wyatt.
A memorial visitation will be held at Baxter Funeral & Cremation Service on Saturday, March 1, 2025 from 1-3 p.m. as cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you plant a tree at your favorite property.
