Jerald Siegel

Dr. Jerald Siegel, a devoted physician, steadfast family man, and proud Brooklyn native, passed away peacefully in Boca Raton, Florida on December 6 at the age of 94.

Born in 1931, Jerald grew up in Brooklyn and attended Tilden High School before heading to Syracuse University, where he met his first wife, Ruth-his college sweetheart and partner in life for more than four decades. He went on to earn his medical degree from Chicago Medical School, completed his internship at Hackensack Hospital, and then served two years in the United States Navy in New Orleans, caring for servicemembers with the same calm competence and kindness he would be known for throughout his career.

Following his military service, Jerald pursued surgical and urologic training at the Bronx VA Hospital and Columbia Medical Center. In 1964, he began his urology practice at Hackensack Hospital, where he built a distinguished career marked by skill, leadership, and deep commitment to patient care. He chaired the Department of Urology from 1975 to 1992 and continued practicing until his retirement in 2001, earning the respect and admiration of colleagues, trainees, and patients alike.

Jerald endured profound personal loss with grace and resilience. Ruth predeceased him in 2000, and years later he found companionship again with his second wife, Rita-both of whom sadly passed away from Alzheimer's disease, in 2000 and 2024 respectively.

He leaves behind a loving family who brought him immense pride: his three children Andrew (Leslie), Richard (Betsy), and Ellen (Tom); seven grandchildren-Jeffrey (Nina), Alexa (Josh), Isabelle (Scott), Jeremy, Dylan (Serena), Noah (Hannah), and Ethan; and his cherished great-grandson, Nathan Jude. He is also survived by his loving brother, Mark (Judy) and was predeceased by his sister, Beverly. He is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews.

His warmth, humor, and devotion to family will be remembered always.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, honoring both the great loves and the great losses of his life.
