Jerald Thompson, 87, of Erhard, died Wednesday, July 30, 2025 at his residence, under the care of Moments Hospice.
Jerald Dean John Thompson was born May 22, 1938 to John and Mabel (Danielson) Thompson in Fergus Falls. He attended school in Underwood, graduating in 1956. He also attended Wadena Technical College. Jerald was a member of the Minnesota National Guard for eight years.
He worked for the Otter Tail County Highway Department for 46 years and 8 months, retiring in 2003. He was a member of the Elks Club in Fergus Falls.
Jerald received his private pilots license in the 1970's. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking-especially his latest hobby of turning lathe, spending time with his family and friends, and spending winters in Texas.
Preceding him in death were his parents, John and Mabel Thompson, and brothers, Marlin Thompson and David Thompson.
Jerald is survived by his wife, Barbara Thompson; his children, Sharon (Peter Colwell) McDonald, Marilyn (Tim) Capouch, Marcia (Carey) Thompson, Rodney Thompson, Colleen (Terry) Hanson, Jeff Boese, Denise (Curt) Lemcke, and Stacey (Todd) Herbel; 25 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Marian Thompson, and former wife, Caroline Engelhart.
Service: 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 5, 2025 at Stavanger Lutheran Church in rural Fergus Falls, with visitation one-hour prior to the service at the church.

Interment: Stavanger Cemetery, rural Fergus Falls, MN
