Jeremiah Walcott Jones

Pomfret - Jeremiah Walcott Jones, 74, of Pomfret, passed away on April 15, 2025, at home. Born in Salem, Massachusetts, he was the son of the late Arthur Morse Jones and Anstiss Dana Jones.
Jeremiah was a proud graduate of Shore Country Day School (MA), St. George's School (RI), Hobart College (NY), and the Harvard University Graduate School of Education (MA). A lifelong educator, Jeremiah taught Math and History, coached football, basketball, and lacrosse, and worked in Admissions before his retirement. Stints at Tilton School (NH), Cushing Academy (MA), Asheville School (NC), Assumption University (MA), and Pomfret School (CT) filled his twenty-five years in education before following his true passion for antiques, especially early Americana furniture and Sterling Silver.
Jeremiah was a standout athlete at St. George's (football, basketball, and track), receiving numerous accolades, and at Hobart (football and lacrosse). He was a loyal volunteer at St. George's School, most recently on the Alumni Association Board of Visitors, the 1970 50th Reunion Committee, the Centennial Committee, and the 125th Anniversary Committee. In 2004, he was inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame, and in 2024, he received the Howard B. Dean Service Award.
He is survived by his wife, Louisa Gebelein Jones, his son, Alexander Walcott Jones, his daughter, Eliza Gebelein Jones, and his sister, A. Derby Jones. His brothers, D. Dana Jones and Anthony Morse Jones, predeceased him.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 28th at 10:30 AM at the St. George's School Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to St. George's School, 372 Purgatory Road, Middletown, RI, 02842, for The Christopher C. Corkery Scholarship.
