Carlen P. Booth 94, of Wakefield, RI formerly of Barrington, RI., passed away on November 2, 2024. He was the husband of the late Joan T. (Thornley) Booth. They were married for 53 Years.
Born in Providence, RI, he was the son of the late Phillips D. and Elsie (Carlen) Booth.
Carlen was the first of three brothers who completed their secondary education at St. George's School. He received his Bachelor of Arts from Brown University and MBA from Boston University.
He had a very long Military career. Carlen was in the Navy Reserve Officers Training Program (ROTC) at Brown University. He served in the Korean War in the Mediterranean, Iceland, Greenland. After active duty he served as an Officer in the U.S. Navy Reserves, Pawtucket, RI and retired as Commander.
He had a forty-year career at New England Mutual Life Insurance Co. in Boston, MA.
As a member of The Newbury Investment Club, he was one of its longest members and continued to be an active member right up until the end.
:Among the countless committees, he served 18 years on the Town of Barrington Committee on Appropriations and as its Chairman for 15 years; served as Chairman of the Barrington High School Building Development committee in the 1990s. He coached Barrington Little League and was Cubmaster, Pack 5 of Boy Scouts of America. He found immense joy in watching many of his grandchildren's sports activities.
Right up until his last year, he was an avid traveler and visited annually to Key West and Ft Lauderdale, FL; Kauai, HI; and many places throughout the US, Caribbean and Bahamas as well as internationally to England, Scotland, Italy, and Gibraltar.
Carlen was dedicated to and active in many civic, lineage, genealogy and historical associations. He was past President of RI Society of Sons of American Revolution and past VPN of the New England District. He was an active member of the RI Society Sons of the Revolution, RI Society of Colonial Wars, RI Society of the Order of Founders and Patriots, Varnum Continentals, CT Society of the Sons of the American Revolution and AE Club. He also belonged to The Providence Art Club, Squantum Association, Anawan Club and the Wardroom Club.
He will be remembered by many as having a keen mind and could recount historical facts, geography, and trivia, numbers, and memories.
His hobbies included reading and enjoying many books about maritime and naval history, US history. He was an enthusiastic collector of stamps and coins, a sports fan, especially the Providence Bruins Hockey.
Carlen was dedicated, hardworking, always congenial, optimistic and cheerful. He greeted everyone with a smile and was kind and friendly to everyone. He was a quiet, steady leader and valued participation and involvement.
.His retirement years were filled with social events, dinners, luncheons, club meetings and travel. He lived a good life and enjoyed it to the fullest.
He is survived by his children Scott D Booth, Lori-Lee B Almeida (August), Cameron T Booth (Brenda) and daughter-in-law Deborah Rumery Booth.He is Survived by 7 Grandchildren;. Brent Almeida, Brittany DiOrio, Ashton Spencer, Kendall Temotio, Taylor Baker, Benjamin Booth, and Ae Jee Booth and 10 great grandchildren.
Carlen is also survived by his brother Anthony Booth (Barbara) and predeceased by his brother Steven D Booth, and his companion Greta Slesiona.
Funeral services will be private. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the RI Society of Sons of American Revolution or St George's School.
