Jeremie Ensign

Jeremie Mikael Ensign age 43 of Ionia, IA, died Sunday, November 13, 2022 at University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics surrounded by family.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, November 17, 2022, at the Hugeback-Johnson Funeral Home & Crematory in New Hampton with Rev. Kevin Frey, Trinity Lutheran Church, presiding.
Interment will be in the New Hampton City Cemetery.
Friends may greet the family 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 16, 2022, at the Hugeback-Johnson Funeral Home & Crematory in New Hampton. Visitation continues an hour to the service at the funeral home.
Jeremie Mikael Ensign was born March 16, 1979, in Cedar Falls, IA, the son of Rickie and Connie (Robinson) Ensign. He spent much of his youth on farms in the Plainfield area, and he loved to rib his children that "you have no idea what it's like" to do everything from baling hay to picking rock.
He received his education at Nashua-Plainfield Community Schools, where he played basketball.
After graduation, Jeremie worked as a welder at a variety of places, including the coop and New Hampton Metal Fab, and most recently, he worked at Reicherts Carpentry.
But Jeremie wasn't defined by his work; instead, he was a man who strongly believed in his family and helping others.
He loved his partner, Sonya Crooks, and his six children and absolutely adored his two grandchildren - Autumn and Camden. Nothing was as important to Jeremie as his family, and they have many fond memories they will cherish throughout their lifetimes.
Jeremie loved watching sports, especially his beloved Chiefs and Hawkeyes. If they were on TV, trust us, it didn't matter where he was, he was going to find a way to get home, get his lucky shoes and socks on and enjoy the game. He was ecstatic when the Chiefs won the Super Bowl LIV in 2020, and when it came to the Hawks, his family will always laugh about Jeremie's lucky rock that could not be moved or touched because if it was, Iowa would invariably fall.
He also loved to grill and listen to music, especially country and '70s rock, but the fact of the matter is this: A perfect day for Jeremie was one spent with Sonya, his kids and his granddaughters. They will miss him dearly.
Survivors include his partner, Sonya Crooks of Ionia; one son, chase Ensign of Ionia; five daughters, Alexus Ensign (Cooper Fisher) of Columbia, MO, Hope Ensign, Adelynn Ensign, Jenna Crooks (Alex Hulsing), Natasha Crooks, all of Ionia; his father, Rickie Ensign of Ionia; two grandchildren, Autumn and Camden Hulsing; his mother, Connie (Doug) Robinson Kollmann of Ionia; brothers, Nathan (Lori) Ensign of Charles City, Kerry Ensign of Mason City, Laren (Karen) Ensign of Tripoli; sister, Lynnsy (Russell) Hesse of Waterloo.
