1993 – 2021
Woodstock Valley – Jeremy David Barefoot, 28, of Woodstock Valley, Connecticut passed away tragically in a single car accident on December 21, 2021. Jeremy was born in Newton Massachusetts.
Jeremy grew up in Mendon and Upton, MA and graduated with High Honors from Nipmuc High School. He was fully committed to the basketball and football programs. In 2016, he graduated from UMASS Amherst with a BS in Political Science. After graduation, he spent 5 years in a successful sales career at Rapid 7 in Boston, MA.
Jeremy, better known to many as JB, Jerry, Jbear, or just plain Barefoot, was as good a brother, son and friend as anyone could have. As a friend, he always genuinely rooted for your success. You can count the times on one hand that he wasn't wearing a smile on his face or a different pair of shoes on his feet. He was taken from us all, well before anyone was willing to let him go, but the years he spent with us were filled with joy, laughter, incredible memories, and all his favorite activities. Amidst our deep sorrow, we find joy in memories of Jeremy we will hold in our hearts.
Jeremy was an avid fan of Boston sports teams, and a huge Celtics "Green teamer". He played basketball every chance he could and spent hours on end at the Putnam, CT YMCA shooting hoops. He loved spending time with family and friends, and he loved to travel. Jeremy had a competitive spirit and was the best at every board game he introduced to family and friends. Most notably, he always won in Catan or Mafia. Jeremy developed passions for long bike rides, and 36 holes of golf every couple days. Jeremy was a food enthusiast, with a taste for high quality sushi and Italian food. He considered himself to be a great chef, although he usually enjoyed his unique concoctions more than others did.
Jeremy was involved in his community, taking great joy in being a Big Brother to Mekhi Lowe-Smith in the Big Brother Big Sister program in Boston.
He is survived by his mother, Laurie Blodgett Barefoot of Woodstock Valley, CT, father, Dwight Barefoot of Mendon, MA, and brother Jake Barefoot of Lawrence, MA. Grandparents, Gail Horning and Joan & Norman Brown. Pre-deceased by grandparents George & Irene Barefoot and Paul Blodgett. Aunts and Uncles Jamie Fisk, Dean & Rebecca Blodgett, Wendy Blodgett, Bob & Paulette Coates, Jennie & John Lougheed, Peter & Jennifer Blodgett, Paul & Sandra Blodgett, Mary Hensel, Annie Blodgett, Everett & Carol Perry, Carol Lynn Smith, Mark & Carol Perry, Brendon Perry, Dale & Natalie Bennett, Doug & Dianne Bennett, Renee & Janusz Czajkowski, Ronnie & Debbie Perry, and Calvin Perry. Our hearts are broken over the loss of Jeremy. When I think of Jeremy I see that huge, bright smile. He was such a kind and sweet kid too. I remember him coming into karate class in Franklin where he and my son Richie took karate lessons.
Today I found a picture of Miss Grillo´s 2nd grade class with Jeremy standing tall in the back row and a picture of the 2nd grade fairytale ball where Jeremy and Richie dressed as Shrek and Donkey so I wanted to share these photos with you. Jeremy, always smiling and forever in our hearts. Thinking of you all at this very difficult time. May God give you comfort, strength and peace.
With sympathy,
Christina, Richie and Joselyn
