Jerome passed away Thursday, May 22, 2025 at Marian Manor Health in Glen Ullin.
Jerome Martin Gerving was born in Glen Ullin on September 12, 1933, the son of Henry and Teresa Gerving. He spent his lifetime in the Glen Ullin area, attending Glen Ullin Public School for twelve years, graduating in 1951. Jerome married his sweetheart, Eileen Wilmes, on September 16, 1952 in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Glen Ullin. Their marriage was blessed with one daughter and seven sons.
Jerome followed in his father’s footsteps, learning the trades of machining and welding at H.G. Gerving Machine Shop. In 1966, he took over the family business and renamed it J.M. Gerving Machine Shop, where he continued to work passionately until the age of 84.
Deeply committed to his community, Jerome was an original member of the Glen Ullin Ambulance service and served as an EMT. He dedicated 56 years as a volunteer fireman and was a board member of the Glen Ullin Fire District. He also served on the Board of Directors for Marian Manor Health Center and was an active member of the Knights of Columbus.
A lifelong parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Jerome joyfully shared his musical talent in the church choir, singing at Sunday Masses, funerals, and weddings throughout his life.
Jerome was an avid sports fan who especially loved basketball. He also enjoyed bowling, golfing, softball, and volleyball. Known for his ability to fix everything, he never met a broken appliance he couldn’t fix. He could always fix it when no one else could. Yardwork was his favorite pastime, and his greatest treasure was his family.
Jerome is survived by his wife, Eileen; daughter, Donna (Dave) Borr of Mandan; sons, Charles “Chuck” (Loretta) of Glen Ullin, Mark (Marla) and Jeff (Katie) both of Bismarck, Mitch (Lorie), Robert “Rob” (Sandy), Kevin (Dana) all of Glen Ullin, Doug (Jodi) of Bismarck; 26 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Jerry Gerving of CO., and Patrick Gerving of CA.
