Jerome John Haus

Jerome John Haus was called to be with the Lord on February 7, 2025 after a brief illness at the Primrose Retirement Community of Zanesville. Jerry was born on August 10, 1936 to John and Ann (Paczak) Haus in Maple Heights, Ohio. He graduated from Maple Heights High School; and upon graduation he went to work for his father at his gas station. Jerry also served in the Ohio National Guard, played minor league baseball, and played the saxophone in a polka band.

He married his first wife, Carol Vito, and they had three daughters together, Lauren (Jack) Spilka of Streetsboro, Ohio, Karen (Terry) Smith of Atlanta, Georgia, and Doreen (Ethan) Stanley of Cincinnati. After Carol’s passing Jerry met and married his wife of forty-nine years, Irene Schumacher. She brought to the marriage her own children, Greg (Karen) Subotnik, Lori Subotnik (deceased), and Doug Subotnik (deceased). Irene and Jerry share a daughter, Amy (Mike) Jacoby of Zanesville. Papa Jerry was loved by his nine grandchildren: Matt (Katie) Spilka, Brett Spilka, Katherine Subotnik, Autumn Smith, Madison Smith, Annabel Stanley, Ethan Stanley, Benjamin (Jojo) Jacoby, and Sarah Jacoby; as well as his great-grandchildren, Camden, Mila, and Baby Spilka.

Jerry was a self-made businessman, building his business, Jerry’s Auto Haus in Richfield, Ohio where he worked tirelessly until his retirement in 2000. He and Irene moved to Punta Gorda, Florida. A place in which they enjoyed boating, fishing, eating meals out, listening to live music, dancing, and most especially, getting visits from friends and family.

Jerry passed his strong work ethic and faith to his children. He was a kind and generous man, who was known for his active sense of humor. He loved his customers (and they him), he cherished anything sweet, and enjoyed watching the Cleveland Indians, Wheel of Fortune, and Jeopardy. In 2017 Jerry and Irene moved back to be closer to family. After Irene’s passing later that same year; Jerry moved to Brookdale for several years where he enjoyed the company of his friend, Joyce. In his last two years he was blessed to live at Primrose, and was taken care of by some remarkable young aides and nurses, to whom the family is deeply grateful. Jerry will be remembered as a loving faith-filled man who enjoyed a good glass of wine while praying the rosary.

In addition to those previously mentioned he is preceded in death by his parents.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2025 at the St. Mary's Catholic Church located at 6280 St Marys Rd, Nashport, OH; at 10:30AM with Father Ralko as celebrant.
