Jerome "Jerry" Spiegel

Jerome "Jerry" Spiegel, aged 87, of Voorhees, NJ, passed away peacefully on July 28, surrounded by his loving family.

Jerry was known for his warm smile, sharp wit, and deep knowledge, with particularly keen interests in world history and US politics. Jerry had an enduring love of books and great films and loved to share his collection of both with friends and family. He never missed a Sunday morning news show or an opportunity for a spirited political debate. While steadfast and disciplined, Jerry knew how to have fun and counted black jack, golfing and sun bathing among his favorite past times. More than anything, Jerry was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and was often found reading a good book, watching cartoons or sharing donuts with his grandchildren.

Jerry was born on April 9, 1932 to Gussie and Arthur Spiegel in New York City. He proudly served in the US Airforce during the Korean War. After returning from the war, he earned a Bachelor's degree from New York City College and began his career as an industrial engineer. He married Florence Spiegel and had four children. Jerry's successful career led him to Texas where he served as Southwest Regional Manager for International Paper in Houston and then Plant Manager in Dallas. Jerry moved back to the East Coast to work with his brother Marvin at Command Container. In 1988, he married Martha and became a dad to her five children. He and Martha spent over thirty years running the JTM company together.

Jerry is survived by his loving wife, Martha Spiegel, son Alan Spiegel, daughter Karen Spiegel and partner Kristen Lynam, daughter Ann Spiegel and spouse Beverly West, son Ken Spiegel, daughter Linda Tatlow, her husband Nicholas and grandchildren Livia and Sebastian; daughter Diane Eriksson, her husband Mikko and grandchildren Elizabeth, Aliyah, Ethan, Aleena, Amelia and Brendan; son Gerard Hammel and his wife Christina; daughter Christine Breen, her husband Jonathan and grandchildren William and June; Eric Hammel, his wife Dawn Juliana and grandchildren Juliana, Christian and Gabriel and his brother Theodore Spiegel.
