Jerrel Alan Hurt

Jerrel Alan Hurt, 79, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, February 4, 2026 after a brief illness at Deaconess Midtown Hospital.

Always a hard worker, Jerrel spent most of his adult life as a fence installer, first at Rio Grand Fence Company (where he met the love of his life), followed by Willis Fence Company, and finally at Midwest Fence Company, where he remained employed part time until long after retirement.

Jerrel spent much of his free time playing cards with his cousins or with his sisters, who always benefited from his expert advice (or so he would say). He also enjoyed spending time with friends at Bucks and 7-11.

Jerrel is survived by his sisters, Cora Miskimen, Beth Moore, Melody Summers (Tony), and Phylis Wade; along with a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Jerrel was preceded in death by his parents, Georgia Lee (Hurt) White and Prentice Howard White; his loving wife, Jackie Winfield Shornhorst Hurt; brothers-in-law, Chester Miskimen and Gary Moore; and a niece, Harmonie Lynn Summers.

A celebration of Jerrel's life will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, February 10, 2026 at Browning Funeral Home, 738 Diamond Ave., Evansville, IN 47711 with Rev. David Garrett officiating. Burial will follow at Locust Hill Cemetery, where he will once again and forever rest beside his loving wife.

Friends may visit from 11:00 am until service time on Tuesday, February 10, 2026 at Browning Funeral Home.
