Jerris Kathleen McMullen, 85, of
Norton, KS passed away August 25, 2025 at the Logan Manor. She was born on August 12, 1940 in
Norton, KS to Charles and Aileen (Youngs) Cuthbertson.
Jerris grew up rural in Dellvale, KS and as a child spent as much time as possible outdoors. In her youth, she oversaw collecting the milk and would jump on her horse Trigger bareback to bring the milk cows in and do her chores. Jerris attended Country school at Dellvale then moved to Norton to attend NCHS, where she graduated with the class of 1958. In high school, Jerris was active in 4-H and often reminisced of being a Norton Bluejay Cheerleader and was active in several school organizations. On February 7, 1960, Jerris married her high school sweetheart, Larry Fay McMullen in Norton. To this union, five children were born: Bradley, Lisa, Lynnette, Brian, and Lari Ann. Being a homemaker and farmer's wife were Jerris' priority and love. Together Larry and Jerris owned and operated Works By Macs, a small custom framing and craft supply store in downtown Norton. She also worked as a bookkeeper for Hall's clothing, Ankenman machine shop, Norton County Co-op and later Ag Valley Co-op. Her passion for 4-H continued throughout adulthood, serving as a club and project leader. Jerris was a member of the Christian Church, Heritage Quilt Club and Harmony Homemakers. She was also an avid bowler and very much enjoyed her Monday afternoons bowling with her team, Hall's Clothing. She enjoyed sewing, scrapbooking, crafting of any kind and collecting depression glass and crystal. She also loved holidays, especially Christmas with a special fondness for Santa, Sundays were spent watching NASCAR and NFL. Larry and Jerris appreciated time spent together traveling to area dirt track races. Jerris was a hostess extraordinaire, entertaining both young and old. She loved being surrounded by her family and friends. After retirement she enjoyed following her grandchildren up and down the highways for sporting events. Nieces and nephews were especially spoiled by Aunt Jerris. She was a devoted friend to so many and had special bonds with Pam, Cindy, Mary, Ermalea, June, and Evelyn.
