Murel Aileen Davis, daughter of C. Everett and Elma (Preston) Ankenman, was born January 30, 1922, in Norton County, Kansas and passed away in Norton on August 20, 2025, at the age of 103.

She grew up in the Dellvale area where her family farmed. She attended Dallas School through 8th grade and graduated from Norton High School in 1939. On August 6, 1951, Murel and Gordon E. Davis were united in marriage at Quinter, Kansas.

Murel was a member of the Maple Grove Church of the Brethren her whole life. She was involved in the many services performed by the Church and the Church's "Ladies Fellowship Group." She served as Maple Grove Church Treasurer from 1982 to 2016.

After her children were older, she began working for the First National Bank which later became the First Security Bank. She enjoyed being a part of the staff there and worked 15 years until her retirement.

Murel was fortunate to be able to travel the country during her life. She helped plan family vacations every year to see relatives and friends plus many scenic areas and parks. When at home, she worked in her garden where she guided the family in vegetable gardening for many years until over time, she began to focus on flowers with big beds of roses, iris, peonies, and whatever else she chose to create happiness and color. Lastly, she kept busy with needlework which she learned as a youngster. She sewed clothing for herself and, later, for her kids. During retirement she was always working on a project, mostly embroidery.

Murel is survived by her daughter, Leslie and her husband, Jerry E. Rife of Trenton, NJ; her grand-daughter, Whitney E. Rife of Philadelphia, PA and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Gordon E. Davis; her son, Lynn A. Davis; her parents, C. Everett and Elma Ankenman; her brother, Lester Ankenman and his wife, Wava; and her brother, Raymond Ankenman and his wife, Elta.

A memorial service is planned for Tuesday, September 9, 2025 at 2:00 pm at the funeral home. There will be a private family inurnment in the Norton Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Andbe Home and sent in care of Plumer-Gobber Funeral Home, 215 W. Main St., Norton, KS 67654. Condolences may be left at www.plumergobber.com
