Jerry T. Acker

Jerry Truman Acker, 82 of Rusk, TX passed away January 7, 2025 surrounded by his loving family. He was born March 15, 1942 in Neches, TX to Roy Truman Acker and Katherine Wysick Acker. Jerry lived all of his life in the Rusk area. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and rode bulls in his younger years. Jerry graduated from Maydelle High School in 1961. After graduation, he joined the US Army, serving seven and a half years. He was wounded in Vietnam on November 13, 1968 and was Honorably Discharged on August 24, 1970. During his service, he earned a National Defense Service Medal, A Vietnam Service Medal, a Vietnam Campaign Medal, a Purple Heart and a Combat Infantry Badge. During his service, he married Carolyn Marie Oliver on November 27, 1965. They were married in Rusk. He worked a lot of construction jobs and jobs that involved him being outside.
Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, Roy Truman Acker and Katherine Price; sisters: Bernice Blackmon and Judy Munsinger; and brother: Roy Junior Acker. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Carolyn Marie Acker of Rusk; son: Jerry Lee Acker and wife Kelli of Rusk; daughter: Becky Raymond of Tennessee Colony, TX; four grandchildren: Gina Cleek and her daughters Madison and Alivia of Palestine and son Andrew Treme of Robstown, TX, Dusti Boltz and her husband James and their son Kane of Palestine, Dakota Acker and wife Rachel of Jacksonville, Kaitlyn Argenbright and husband Chris and their daughter Hollyn of Rusk; one great great granddaughter: Faelyn Nash of Palestine; sister: Janet Motley of Palestine; as well as a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members and friends.
Visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 11, 2025 at the Chapel of Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m. also at the funeral home. Interment will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Jamie Oliver, Ricky Monkress, David Long, Charlie Cornelius, Billy Kimbrell, Eddie Jones. Flowers are permitted or memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
