Obituary of Jerry Bruce Bain
Jerry Bruce Bain, formerly of Indianapolis, died at home on May 12, 2024, in Venice, Florida, with his wife Sharon, by his side. They were high school sweethearts, "forever friends" since age 10, and had been married for 55 years. Jerry was a 1965 graduate of Ben Davis High School and a charter member of Chapel Hill United Methodist Church in Indianapolis where his name is among others in the church's cornerstone. During his lengthy retirement in Florida, he enjoyed his Grady White boat and often fished in the Gulf of Mexico and the Intracoastal Waterway with his wife, family, and friends. Boating was one of Jerry's favorite hobbies. Whether on the Ohio River 200 mile-trip in his cabin cruiser going to a family reunion, on Lake Shafer water skiing, or on Lake Monroe or Raccoon Lake where he fished in his bass boat, Jerry was always a happy man on the water! Jerry was the owner of Speedway Auto Parts in Indianapolis, Indiana, where he started as the delivery man after being discharged from the US Army in 1968. In the US Army, he served a tour of duty at Bien Hoa Army Air Base, Headquarters unit in Bien Hoa, South Vietnam in 1967-68 (Tet offensive), serving as a cook and night baker.
Burial will be at Sarasota National Cemetery.
Jerry was the son of Oliver and Ruth Bain, deceased, and had one sister, Beverly, also deceased. He was very proud of his IMPD police officer son, Daniel, who he leaves behind, along with daughter-in-law Lacey and 6 grandchildren – Mason, Colin, Ellen, Jaycob, Khristian, Izabel – as well as an extended family of Slone relatives – Peggy Hiller (Steve), Libby Slone, Brian Slone (Amy), Debbie Gomba (Don) and their children who viewed him as the current patriarch of the family. He also loved his many dogs over the years – Cinder, Tina, Daisey, Lucy, Maggie, and Mollie.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Farley Funeral Home – Venice. In lieu of flowers please donate to the Hendricks County Humane Society or the Wounded Warrior Project.
