Jerry Alan Bates was born to Robert E. and Mattie Bates on May 28th, 1961 in Amarillo Texas. He transitioned with the ancestors on January 30th, 2026, in his home.
Funeral service will be at 11:00 AM, Saturday, February 21, 2026 at Triumph Church Ministries, 4100 Republic. Interment will be in Plainview Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.
Jerry graduated from Tascosa High School and shortly after enlisted into the US Army where he served 3.5 years before returning to his hometown. Jerry was known for being outspoken, his charismatic ways and his big heart. He loved all his family and his friends unconditionally. He would give you his shirt off his back and his favorite food was Chik-fil-a and enchiladas and he loved football. Jerry worked at The Big Texan and the Amarillo Country Club, and Tascosa Country Club.
He is survived by 5 children: Jasmine Bates-Collins, Cashay Blaylock, Eric Woods, Jamiara Bates and Jameeka Bates. 4 brothers: James Bates, Bill Bates, Charles Bates, Kenneth Bates. 4 Sisters: Barbara Kay Hughes, Janice Holmes, Debra Bates, Gloria Bates; grandchildren: Nashia Williams, Jay Kavion Williams, Najaya Williams, Jykeem Johnson, ZaKyree Johnson, Shania Johnson, Messiah Woods, Zion Blaylock, Paris Collins, Andrion Ashley, Darius Sanders, Taraji Collins; special nieces and nephew: Shatara Dozier, Kellie Haynes, Ashley Bates, R.J. Baker, Mattie Baker, and Anathasia Bates; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends he loved dearly.
He is proceeded in death by his parents Mattie E. and Robert Bates, 3 brothers: Raymond Bates, Robert Bates Jr. and Ronald Bates. 2 sisters: Patricia Bates and Thelma Bates, a son Keshmond Bates and a grandson Jordan Sanders.
