Coach Behrens was one of my coaches at West Texas St. University. This is where I got to met and got to appreciate Coach Behrens' love for the game of football, love of coaches, and players; and more important - molding young men into productive citizens. I recall how concerned and helpful he was when any of the players had a problem; whether personal or educational. I recall how he and the rest of the coaching staff took pride in how our dorms/rooms looked and reminded us to take care of what we had. Coming from the small West Texas town of Marfa, Texas; I got to appreciate Coach Behrens caring devotion to all West Texas State athletes. Coach Behrens, Coach Mankin, Coach Mayfield, Coach Campbell, Coach Rudd, Coach Drummond, and the rest of the staff: Great men and great leaders of young men.
Coach Behrens is one of the reasons why I became a coach and teacher for 33 years. Lessons learned were passed on to the players I coached and to young coaches entering the coaching profession. I wish I could thank Coach Behrens for being there not only for me, but for others like me.
God Bless Coach Behrens and all coaches like him.

I can recall the dedication he had for all of his players. I recall him getting John Ayers up very morning so John could be successfull on and off the field. I owe him and the rest of Buff coaching staff for making me choose coaching as a way of makiing a living and influencing young men. Thank you Coach for all the memories.

Although we were not real close, I knew all about Cousin Jerry from his Aunt Nan, my grandmother. She kept us all up to date. I remember how I admired him from the time I was a little kid. I can only imagine what an impact he had on the world! God bless Jerry and God bless his family. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Delores and family. Coach will be greatly missed. He has always had a very big piece of my heart. He always made me feel special. One of my favorite memories of him was when I was in college at WT. I would walk to class from my apartment by McDonalds. He would be there in the mornings drinking coffee with the guys. He would come out and wrap his arm around me and walk me across the street. He would always give me encouraging words and just ask how I was doing. I also loved how when he coached us in AAU our basketball plays were in football lingo! Loved it and loved him. Truly missed! God bless you all.

To Delores, Phil and all the family: Coach Behrens was a huge, positive influence on mine and many others' lives. Whatever positive things I've done or accomplished in my life, Coach Jerry Behrens was one of the key persons among those those who taught, motivated and inspired me to to do so. He gave me the gift of believing in me, and the gift of bringing out the best in me more times than I can count. Rest in Peace, Coach. My prayers will and always include you and your family.

I knew Jerry through Herff Jones because I was a cheer sponsor. Jerry always had a smile and something pleasant to say. It didn't matter how busy he was, he always took the time to help each student trying to decide which ring to get, what all was needed for graduation and he'd work anyway he could to help make that kid's dream come true. Jerry definitely was a kind soul and loved each student he came in contact with.
Every time he'd come to Palo Duro or River Road, he had something "he wanted to give to me". Usually it was a calendar. He knew how important it was for me to be able to keep up with everything going on with my cheerleaders and how forgetful I could be! Not sure what I'd have done without his thoughtfulness.
I'm so sorry for your loss. My prayers are that God is holding each of you in the palms of His hands as He walks beside you in the days ahead. You didn't say "Goodbye", you just said, "See you later".
Sincerely,
Melody Lee
