Jerry Mack Bishop, a beloved veteran and cherished member of the Cape Girardeau community, passed away peacefully on June 25, 2025, at the age of 86. Born on August 7, 1938, in Cardwell, Missouri, Jerry exemplified the spirit of dedication and camaraderie, serving his country honorably as a Chief Petty Officer in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War.
Jerry is survived by his loving brother, Harry Bishop; his devoted sisters, Shirley Goode and Barbara Jakoubek; his beloved sons, Gerald Bishop and Jerry Bishop; and his cherished step-children, Tina Harper, Traci Walls, and Tony Foster. He leaves behind a legacy of warmth and connection that will be deeply missed by family and friends alike.
Jerry was preceded in death by his wife, Vera Bishop; his daughter, Sherry Henderson; his parents, Vester Arlander Bishop and Vivion Bishop; and his brothers, David Bishop and Danny Bishop.
A man of many passions, Jerry was an avid fisherman who found solace and joy in the great outdoors. His love for socializing was evident to all who knew him, as he frequented local bars where he became a well-known figure and friend to many. Jerry had a particular fondness for good food and enjoyed sharing margaritas with friends, creating lasting memories filled with laughter and camaraderie.
In honor of Jerry's life and service, a graveside service will be held at Cardwell Cemetery on Monday, June 30, 2025, at 10:00 AM. Family, friends, and all who knew Jerry are invited to gather to pay their respects and celebrate the life of this extraordinary man. His memory will be etched in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him, and his legacy will continue through the stories shared and the love that remains.
Rest in peace, Jerry. Your spirit will always be celebrated with a fishing pole in hand and a margarita in the air.
