Jerry Lee Brazell was born on October 19,1958, in Clovis, New Mexico at his grandmother's house. He was raised in Roswell, New Mexico. He attended Valley View Elementary School until 1969 when he moved back to Clovis with his parents and two brothers, James F and Larry G Brazell. While in Florida, Tamy's father taught him to install wood floors, which he continued doing for a number of years. He also went to truck driving school in Florida. He then drove a truck and worked at a local grocery in Worland. He supplemented his income making and selling his many flavors of jerky.
Later on, he and Tamy fostered two sweet little girls, Ada and Dina.
