Jerry Burns passed from this life to be with Jesus for eternity on Tuesday, April 1, 2025 at the age of 75. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 5 at Community Chapel Church in Hubbard with Rev. Jerry Johnson officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m - 8:00 p.m. Friday, April 4 at Wade Funeral Home in Hubbard.
Jerry was born February 27, 1950 to Alvin and Anna Burns in Hicks, Louisiana. He graduated from Hicks High School. Later he met and married Linnie Corley in 1971. They had 2 children, Violet and Chad. Later in life, they added another child to the family, Cynthia.
Jerry had many jobs - cab driver, truck driver, self-taught mechanic to name a few but the one that mattered the most was his calling from God to preach and serve others. He did this until the end. He preached many years, then pastored a church in Carrollton for 15 years. He and Linnie then moved back to Corsicana. He made Community Chapel in Hubbard his home church. He loved his church family. Jerry loved the Lord, served others, and loved to read and study his Bible.
Jerry is preceded in death by his parents Alvin and Anna Burns; Brothers, sisters and in laws, Floyd, Sheldon, and Betty Burns; Elwin Burns, Frankie and Stafford Bertrand, LeNore and David Lanier, LeVern and Lawrence Burns, and Judy Daley.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 53 years, Linnie Burns. Daughter and Son in law, Violet and Bryon Crum. Son and Daughter in law, Chad and Elizabeth Burns. Daughter, Cynthia Corley. Jerry was a proud PawPaw to Tyler and Ashley Casbeer, Kirsten and Christian Seth, Emaleigh Crum, Abigail Burns and Anna Darden. His great grandson and play buddy-Evren Crum. Jerry has two brothers and sisters in law, John and Elaine Burns, and Larry and Nancy Burns. His sisters in law and brothers in law, Glenda Mae Burns, Debbie Caldwell, Donna and Lenny Courville, Sam and Margaret Corley. He leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews who he loved dearly.
Jerry loved to pick on people and tell jokes. He told jokes all the time to family and friends. He never met a stranger. If he liked you, you were going to be picked on and hear all of the jokes. He's got a million of 'em, the old saying goes. Even after his diagnosis, he was still telling jokes.
Jerry is so loved by many and he will be dearly missed. We will cherish him and all our memories. Most of all, we are thankful for the relationship he had with the Lord. The Bible tells us that because Jesus died for us, that when we pass from this life into eternity with him, we have hope to see our loved ones again. We will hold him and this promise close to our hearts until we get to see him again. We love you and will miss you dearly.
Thank you to Bristol Hospice for your care of Jerry and our family during this time. Special thanks to Julie Flores for all of your help, care, and love to our family. We appreciate it. Many blessings to you!

I was so sorry to hear of the passing of Brother Jerry. I attended services at Miracle Tabernacle during the years of his pastorate there. After Brother Jerry moved back to Corsicana in 2015 and I moved back to Indiana to take care of my mother in 2017, we still many wonderful telephone calls in which we talked about the Lord and the present-day church. I will greatly miss those conversations.

My thoughts are with Brother Jerry's family in their time of loss.
