Gerald "Jerry" Crompton, 68, of
Warminster, PA, passed away suddenly on January 2, 2026, after honorably completing his 57th Mummers Parade.
Born and raised in the Wissinoming community of Philadelphia, Jerry was a proud graduate of North Catholic High School, class of 1975. He went on to graduate from Widener University, where he formed lifelong bonds with his Kappa Sigma fraternity brothers. Throughout his academic career, Jerry excelled in musicianship, playing saxophone in a variety of jazz and wedding bands.
Most notably, Jerry began playing saxophone as a Mummer in 1968 alongside his father, Frank "Jerry" Crompton, with the Aqua String Band. Over his more than 50-year, Hall of Fame career, Jerry also marched with the Polish American, Ferko (where he was joined by his brother Gary Crompton), and Fralinger String Bands. He was truly at home with the Avalon String Band, where he proudly marched alongside his three sons, Jeff, Jim, and Jerry.
Known affectionately as "Uncle Jer," Jerry was an expert musician and devoted "mum freak" whose passion and dedication elevated performances throughout the city. His first-place finish with Fralinger String Band in 2015 was a point of great pride, surpassed only by the joy of marching with his sons and grandsons (Tim, Henry Jay, Jeffrey, Finn, and Liam) as members of Avalon on the last of his favorite holidays, New Year's Day 2026.
His interpersonal skills and natural drive to mentor others allowed him to excel professionally as well, having recently retired from SEI Investments after 18 years as a key member of the Global HR Investment Management & Institutional Group. Through the many years at SEI, he impacted the careers of countless employees who would solicit his advice in matters both professional and personal.
Jerry's unmistakable physical presence was matched only by his even bigger personality. His love of life and kind nature drew people to him, making him the heart of countless celebrations. A devoted family man, "Pop" cherished sharing good food, great music, and classic stories with those he loved, whether meeting on the beaches of Myrtle Beach, sitting along the Chesapeake near Rock Hall, or wandering the attractions of Disney World. Disney held a special place in his heart, as it was where he and his wife, Anne, honeymooned in 1980 and returned dozens of times throughout their 45-year marriage.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Anne Crompton; his mother, Joan Crompton (90); his brother, Gary Crompton (Maryanne); his children, Jeff and wife Jen Crompton, Jim and wife Bernadette Crompton, Justine and husband Chad Towarnicki, and Jerry "Little Jer" and wife Kait Crompton; and his five cherished grandsons, Tim, Henry Jay, Jeffrey, Finn, and Liam.
In a life marked by ambition and achievement, Jerry often reflected that his most significant accomplishments and most treasured memories were the moments he shared with his family.
A public viewing will be held on Monday, January 12, 2026 from 5 PM - 8 PM at Campbell & Thomas Funeral Home 905 Second Street Pike,
Richboro, PA 18954. On Tuesday, additional viewing time will be 10 AM - 11 AM followed by a Funeral Service at 11 AM. Interment and luncheon are private.
