Jerry Eugene Etheridge, Sr.

Jerry Eugene Etheridge, Sr., a cherished member of the Commerce community, passed away peacefully on June 20, 2025, in Athens, Georgia, at the age of 87. Born on January 4, 1938, in Huntsville, Alabama, Jerry distinguished himself through a successful career as Vice President of Butler Shoe Corporation, where he left a lasting impact on his colleagues and the industry.

Jerry was a devoted member of the Cross Roads Worship Center Church of God in Commerce, Georgia, where he found solace and purpose in nurturing his spiritual life. Known for his unwavering faith, he embodied the virtues of kindness and generosity, leaving a blueprint of compassion for all who knew him.

Among his hobbies, Jerry had a deep love for baseball and was particularly fond of his beloved dog, Bingo Bear, affectionately known as "Boo Boo Bear." These passions were a reflection of his joyful character and his ability to find happiness in life's simple pleasures.

He is survived by his devoted spouse, Ruth Lynch Etheridge, and their family, which includes sons Jerry E. Etheridge, Jr., Richard L. (Maureen) Etheridge, James W. (Lori) Etheridge, and Brian K. (Jennifer) Etheridge. Jerry was a proud grandfather to eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, all of whom he adored and cherished.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, James W. Etheridge and Johnnie Moore, his sister Elizabeth Etheridge, his brothers Buddy Etheridge and Frank Etheridge, and a grandson, Josh Etheridge. His legacy will forever remain in the hearts of his family and friends, who will remember him for his unwavering faith, love for family, and laughter that filled every room.

Visitation services will be held at the Crossroads Worship Center Church of God in Commerce, Georgia, on June 25, 2025, beginning at 1:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM. Family and friends are invited to gather to honor the life of Jerry Eugene Etheridge, Sr., celebrating the profound impact he had on all who had the privilege to know him. Burial will follow at 1 pm Thursday, June 26, 2025 at Oak Grove Cemetery in Americus, GA. The family welcomes flowers.
