Jerry R. Ewen, 73, of Logansport, IN, passed away August 21, 2024. He was born on November 30, 1950 in Gary, IN to Glen and Marie Ewen.

Jerry was a kind, humble, gentle giant with a firm constitution. His calling in life was humility, compassion, and patience. Jerry was a selfless man, always thinking of others before himself. He was always one to crack a joke and bring laughter and joy to everyone around him. He enjoyed watching western shows, Bigfoot Hunting, and River Monster episodes.

Jerry met Diana, while she was working in the office at a fastening company and immediately fell in love. He would come back often to see her, trying to work up the courage to ask her out. He blew his cover when he would come back multiple times in the following weeks, Diana recognizing him purchasing things that didn't pertain to anything he needed on his farm. Her co worker mentioned to Diana that he thought Jerry was interested in her, and shortly after that, he worked up the courage to ask her out. He told her, "I knowed that we are going to get married." Jerry and Diana did indeed wed, and they spent 21 wonderful, loving years together.

Jerry was always supportive of his grandchildren by showing up to watch their events they were involved in. You never knew if he was going to be sporting a big Santa Claus beard or be clean shaven. One of the reasons he did grow his beard out around the holidays, was to play the role of Santa at stores or shops for the children. Around Christmas time, Jerry would get a big tin of popcorn, pretzels and other snacks to enjoy, although he always found himself more partial to microwaveable popcorn and Cheetos.

Jerry was a farmer, and had a big old workshop on their 16 acre property. He would always be out there tinkering around, often involving his grandchildren, making them feel special and like they were "helping out", when in reality, they were probably adding more work to his day. He would take them for rides on the heavy farming machinery and would always make time out of his busy day to involve them in his farm work.

He was preceded in death by sisters, Mary Herring of Merrillville, Indiana, Joanne Ewen of Lake Station, Indiana, Nancy (George) Wilson of Pasadena, Texas, Cindy (Steve) Beheba of Bruno, MN, and Shirley Staples of Hobart, Indiana; brothers, Glen Allen Ewen of Portage, Indiana, and Dean Ewen of Crown Point, Indiana.

Jerry is survived by his loving wife, Diana Ewen; stepson, Matt (Tiffany) Godsey; grandsons, Colin and Ryan Godsey, who were especially fond of "Grampa Jerry" and were grief stricken by his passing; nieces, Lynn (George) Glotzbach of Hebron, Indiana, Elizabeth Ewen of Crown Point, Indiana, Ann Cole of Muncie, Indiana, and Heidi Sailors of Hobart, Indiana; nephews, Terry (Anita) Cowart of Sault Ste. Marie, MI, David (Heidi) Ewen of Valparaiso, Indiana, Harold Herring of Crown Point, Indiana, and John Herring of Valparaiso, Indiana.

We know he resides in Heaven with the King of Kings, and the Lord of Lords. Until we meet again, our precious Jerry.

His favorite Bible verse was Proverbs 18:22: The man who finds a wife finds a treasure, and he receives favor from the Lord.

Jerry's presence will be deeply missed by his family and all who got the privilege to know him.
