Dennis Robert Thrush, Sr.

Dennis Robert Thrush, Sr., passed away on February 15, 2026, in Crawfordsville, Indiana. Born on August 6, 1943, in Norfolk, Virginia, Dennis’s life was marked by his fierce love for his dogs, his Navy service, his undying hopefulness(4 ex-wives) and his never ending supply of jokes(IYKYK).

Dennis began his journey in Norfolk, where he was born to James Joseph Thrush and Pauline Rae Keller(Vandemark). Dennis attended the Naval Academy for a year before completing his service in the enlisted ranks. Following his time at the Naval Academy and the Navy, Dennis pursued higher education with determination. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Ohio Northern University and later achieved a master’s degree from Pepperdine University.

He is remembered by his sons, Robert Thrush and Cory Thrush; daughter-in-law, Heather Thrush; sister, Candice Thrush; brother, James Thrush; granddaughter, Allee Thrush; and great-grandson, Sebastian Thrush.

Dennis’s affection for animals was well known among those who knew him best. His love for his dogs—too many to list—was a defining part of his daily routine throughout his life. Dennis found companionship and happiness in their presence.

He was predeceased by his father, J.J. Thrush, and mother, Pauline Rae Keller.

Throughout all chapters of his life—from student to sailor to hopeless romantic to joke telling master—Dennis Robert Thrush, Sr., left his mark on all those around him.
