Jerry Harran Obituary
After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was stationed aboard the aircraft carrier, USS Ticonderoga. He returned home in 1955, and June 4, he married his high school sweetheart, Catherine Carver. That same year Jerry began his career at the Southern New England Telephone Company as a lineman in New London. In 1970, he was promoted to foreman of installation and repair; and in1987, he retired with 33 years service.
After retirement, Jerry appreciated spending winters in Florida. He and Catherine traveled to Tampa, Clearwater or Cape Coral, each year until 1998. Jerry was a lifetime member of the New London Lodge of Elks # 360, and a member of the Telephone Pioneers. A skilled electrician and carpenter, he was also an avid golfer. Jerry was a member of the Norwich Country Club for more than 20 years, and treasured his time playing with family and friends. He was a devoted husband and father, a proud grandparent, and a loyal friend to many. We will miss his quiet sense of humor, warm heart, intelligence and advice.
Jerry is survived by Catherine, his wife of 66 years. He is also survived by his sons, Christopher Harran of Meriden, Arthur (Nancy) Harran of Waterford, and daughter Nancy (Arthur) Calcagni of Niantic. In addition, he is survived by his grandchildren, Andrew Harran of New London, Morgan Harran of Waterford and Timothy Calcagni of Wallingford. Jerry is also survived by his brother John Harran of Florida. He will be lovingly missed by several nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends. Jerry was predeceased by his brother James (Gloria) Harran of Waterford; and Jason Harran of Jacksonville, Fla.
There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, April 1, in St. Matthias Church, 317 Chesterfield Road, in East Lyme. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association. Please visit www.neilanfuneralhome.com to leave an online condolence.

Dear Cathy and family, I have thought a lot about you since Jerry´s passing. This week I thought he would get a kick out of knowing I
have found ancestors from the 1600s that were living in New London, Mystic, Waterford, and Stonington. Who knew? We always loved visiting with the two of you when we were in town. I
know it is hard, but please take care and remember Jerry was so
respected and cared for because of the good soul he was.

Dear Cathy and family, I am so terrible sorry to learn
of the death of Jerry. He was my Foreman at SNET for
many years. I think I was the first female reporting to him. He was always kind, funny, and fair. I wanted to
visit both Jerry and Cathy but with Covid it wasn´t possible. He truly was a wonderful person and will be
missed by many. He was one of a kind. The world has lost a very special person.
